Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

When can I apply for the test?

I took my theory test on may 30th or so and got the actual licence on june 3rd or 4th (after they sent it out first with the wrong name on it).

Anyway, I know I have to have the licence six months before I can do the test for my full licence, however can I apply for the test before that?

for instance, on average it takes 6 weeks to get the test in sligo and probbly around the same length to do it in monaghan (both places I would be comfortable doing it), with it nearing the end of November the 6 or 7 weeks I would have to wait would bring me over the six month mark for having my learners permit.

I could do with having the full licence for potential work opportunities (graduating from my masters next month) and general driving around the place.

    Thanks guys!

You can apply for the test when ever you like, however you must have held your Leaner Permit for at least 6 months on the day of your test.

Actually on my learner permit it says you have to hold the permit for 6 months before you even apply for the test - unless I have my stupid head on me I think that's the case.

That's not true. On the day of the test, they will check the date on your learner permit and make sure that it's been more than 6 months since it was issued.

just to add to that, recieved my provissional few weeks ago, have first lesson next week, applied for test today, understanding that i have to have the permit for 6 months before test can be done, give me some thing to aim for, but did not give an opiton to select the date, assumed it checks your permit number off a data base and will not allocate a date that is under 6 months since issue

would that be right or is it going to give the first available date and its up to me to change to a later one

I'm open to correction but I think that if you apply online, they request your permit ID number and ensure that the date assigned is appropriate. However, if you apply by standard post, you may be assigned an unsuitable date and the onus is on you to ensure that your LP has 6 months on it.

    Anyone care to confirm?
