Flash mob in cork city on saturday at around half one on patrick street if anyone is there this weekend! Its linked with the protest over cuts in spending on the arts and there is also a protest march on! Check it out on www.corkarts.org

For those that dont know, a flash mob is a group of people who come together in one place suddenly and do an unusual thing (usually dancing) and afterwards, disperse quickly without a trace!

P.s. Sorry if link doesn't work im on boards mobile here! :)

he'll save every one of us?

on a more serious note, sounds cool, the arts need some support at the moment with all the cuts they're having to face :(

Surely the main point behind a flash mob is lost if you tell everyone that its happening. All the best ones are kept pretty secret, right!?

Bah! Flash mobs are supposed to be for fun facetious reasons, not for bolstering support for a demonstration.

I remember back in the day when flash mobs were all about pillow fights and mass dyings. We wore onions in our belts, which was the style at the time.

You have to attend two rehearsals to participate in this one - how very spontaneous.

You don't actually have to participate in the rehearsals to do it on the day but see their FB page for more

Thats what I want to know too! Based on the size of the crowd in the videos though I'd say either Daunt Sq or more likely the top of Winthrop St. Anywhere else would be very tight and spread out but those two locations would have a good bit of available space.

In fairness boy it's a recession, the arts aren't that important anyway so obviously there is going to be cuts there

But then the next thing it will be 'ah education isn't that important', then health etc. Where will it stop?

Arts is important in so many ways - culturally, social well-being, as well as tourism.
