Anybody know the starting salary? Deloitte website says just over 22K but I seem to remember PSNI talking about a 'danger allowance' although I thought that had been stopped?

Pretty certain the starting salary in GV is £ 22K, rising to £ 24.5 on completion and then £ 26K after the 2 years probation.

Re the 'danger allowance' - I was of the understanding that this was phased out. Don't you know we are a 'normal' society again?? ;)

I love the 'normal' society reference:D....I'm saying nothing mate;)

I had a feeling the 'Crazy Norn Iron' allowance had been phased out but I guess you don't get if you don't ask eh?

I'm sitting in work bored and dreaming about a start date for the big bad GV bus lad....more waiting:mad:

Me too mate. With your merit score you're looking at one of the first three intakes. I could still be waiting in 4-5 months (probably longer reading old posts from other wannabes like myself). Fingers crossed you get the call soon.

Right - what organisation can we hassle next? Thinking of Deloitte for our feedback for a laugh and then we can all have an attempt at calculating our AC scores!

What score did you get buddy? I'm sure an intelligent gent such as yerself will get the call....besides a few months off to spend that redundancy cheque wouldn't be so bad now would it:D

I think it's time to start gathering our merit scores and backgrounds together so we can try and figure out where all the boardies start for C15.

    What'd recon mate?

It really pains me to put myself in a religious bracket because all my life I have been taught we are all the same and that religion should not be a factor.

And here I am applying for a job that will potentially select my start date based on my 'perceived religion' (based on the schools I went too). Normal society my a*se! Ok rant over. For now anyway. ;)

Non RC low 140s. Passed medical. Vetting sent off Sept. First time applicant.

You're both in with those scores:D

    RC merit between 130 - 140.

Re ' Danger Money ' or to call it by it's correct name The Northern Ireland Allowance - it has not been phased out and it is still being paid.

It was reviewed some time ago by the Northern Ireland Office and though there was some talk of it going that ultimately did not happen. To the best of my knowledge it will remain in place until either 2011 or 2012 when it will be reviewed again in the light of the security situation then pertaining.

O goodness Russ I hope so. Mister J, we are very similar, in score and attitude my friend!

Think it is now called the NI Transitional Allowance and think it is around £ 2K- £2.5K pa. Not sure when you qualify for it though.

Quite correct Misterjay , I did indeed leave out the word transitional , I suspect the purpose of that word is to give a ' hint ' that it is a payment by no means guaranteed to be paid in perpetuity.
I haven't a notion when you actually get paid it.

Believe it or not the Patten Commission actually investigated the possibility of introducing a requirement for a minimum % of new recruits to be female ( apparently women were few and far between in the full time ranks of the R.U.C. ). The reason no such minimum was introduced was that legal advice to Patten said such a move would be illegal !

Somebody did mention no intake in December and next calls will go out for January at the end of this month:D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11 bigusredus

PSNI posted no December intake and that January was likely.Other posts refer 4 -6 weeks notice of appointment therefore most are hoping for calls to go out at the end of this month.Seeing that its 18th already hold tight;)

Just a question.... Does the 22k starting salary include this or is this in addition?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 32 Billybates81

I spoke with recruitment and they told me calls go out at the beginning of December so I think it will be just under 2 weeks. Roll on Dec 1st!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 26 kazo

Well if you consider that the elite from c15 started in November, gv09 and elizabeth09, then there must be a few on here getting a wee call. Omg!!

fingers crossed that some of us get calls in the next few weeks. How great of a christmas present would that be and a great start to the new year.:D

Below 200 is a good score. However it all depends on how many people they are taking.

If it is 440 as initially advertised then yes, below 200 is probably enough.

However the vetting part could take months or it could take weeks. There are some posters on this forum who have been waiting well over a year (and possibly even longer). Therefore it would be wrong of anyone to say how long. The fact that you have been SC before may or may not speed it up. Due to the sensitive nature of SC it is not prudent to discuss the processes in too much depth on a public forum.

My advice - prepare yourself for a very long wait and if it comes any quicker then it's a bonus. You will hear either way when they are ready.

    Good luck with the wait.

Cheers for that, still not gonna count my chickens and all that but its good to have some sort of idea!

Just gotta play the waiting game now!
