Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If I were to pick my team based on this season's form it'd be something like this

    Buffon

    Maicon----Chiellini---Terry---Cole

    Messi---Essien---Fabregas---Ronaldo

    ----Cassano

    Ibra

Would have doubts whether Ronaldo and Cassano could work together but anybody who's seen Sampdoria this season must agree that Cassano in a 5 star team would be lovely stuff altogether and Cassano and Ibra interplay would be glorious

Not enough Serie A players in that Bubs. Do you even watch it?:pac:

    Anyhoo -

    Buffon

    Maicon
    Carvalho
    Vidic
    Evra

    Essien

    Xavi
    Fabregas

    Messi
    Ronaldo

    Torres

Subs: Casillas, Gerrard, Alves, Rooney, Drogba, Ibrahimovic, Iniesta

Carvalho has deteriorated a lot in the last 12 months.

That aside, pretty much spot on. Maybe Iniesta for Xavi.

No, Kyrogen said Cassano was a great player and he's been a dick to me so I thought I had to include him

    LOL no, not at all.

Just when you see people with reasoning like "leaving Ronaldo out until he proves he is a consistent team player" or people including Agger or Pique you can make pretty accurate assumptions over their knowledge/bias, one of which is pretty important on a soccer forum and one of which, well, makes anything you say on certain subjects invalid.

I think the main conclusion I'd come to looking at this thread and having thought it over is the lack of really good centre backs at the moment in world football. Mot people have picked Vidic/Carvalho, despite both of them having shown signs of serious regression over the last 6-12 months. Its the lack of anyone outstanding springing up anywhere else that has them still in most people's teams I think.

    For a change

    Carson

    Eboue
    Silvestre
    Knight
    Carr
    Mcshane
    Bentley
    Barton
    Nani

    Alves
    Voronin

Pretty good premier league team there, definatly challenging for honours with McShane and Barton dominating the midfield

Think that that is a few people trying to show off how cultured they are in footballing terms ;)

He is good and will be top class but he can't be mentioned in the same breath as the likes of Fabregas, Xavi, Gerrard, Lampard, Iniesta or Kaka...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,285 ✭✭✭Frankie Lee

Pique being on some of these lists certainly is interesting...

If he was still at United he'd be ahead of Vidic or Rio at this stage, also he was immense for Barcelona at times last season, the leadership he showed in Stamford Bridge being an example.

    no.

he's still a mistake waiting to happen too often.

    although he is very good.

Pique isn't as quick, nor does he read the game as well as Rio.

Pique isn't as imposing or brave as Vidic.

I disagree, Rio is getting past it and Vidic is a mistake that happens every time they play Liverpool.

being a Liverpool fan, the Vidic comment does amuse me, but Rio has only been 'past it' since this back injury got too much for him. up until the end of last season he was still imperious.

Vidic makes mistakes against Torres. most probably do. still on a whole nother level to Pique imo.

football's about opinions though, so you're entitled to yours.

So Pique is better than Vidic because he made mistakes -v- Liverpool twice?

    Cool

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,589 ✭✭✭✭Necronomicon

Pique wouldn't break up a fully fit Rio/Vidic partnership, but given how seldom that has been available to United lately it's a little despairing to see how well he's doing elsewhere (only from a wishing we still had him pov, actually happy for the chap as he's a class act).

Well the bias was admitted and I had to include a footballing centreback. I disagree in a big way that Agger has been average at best for Liverpool when fit. He is outstanding on the ball, has an excellent left foot and is a threat in the air.

TBH, that just makes him out to be a second rate Chiellini. Giorgio has great fitness, skilled on the ball and rarely makes the mistakes that Agger has made in the past, played left back for the first few years, has far more experience and is only a year older and has a decent scoring rate.

I am not sure what mistakes you are referring to. He hasn't played enough this season for real judgement andgiven we hd a pretty goos start to 09 I do wonder which goals (or even just mistakes you blame him for.

Anyway, I readily admit he isn't in the top 2 centre back in the world if it helps. I just think he is an outstanding footballer when fit.

I think you've misunderstood me. It has nothing to do with bigging myself up. I dont claim to be a football guru but look at the thread title, and then look at some of the teams and reasonings. There is literally no case for Agger or Pique to be in the teams. none. There is also no case to leave Ronaldo out.

So when I see that some people have included or precluded people like the above it makes me wonder they have any clue at all, or if their bias is so strong that their reasoning gets blurred. Either way, its not a good thing.

    Shay Given
John O Shea Sean St. Ledger Dickie Dunne Zinedine Kilbane

Not only is this the greatest football team in the world but the greatest of all time. (Possibly with the exception of Terry Phelan)

any team with Henry, Anelka, Diarra, Gallas and Evra in it is anything but weak.

more respect to their talents, and less disrespect to our lads i reckon.

Kaka has been quite average ever since 2007. Nothing special out of him at all. The amount of people who left out Iniesta is baffling. Considered by many to have been Barca top player last season. Althought not many on here actually watch Spanish football regularly.

Brother I got the both of them in there albeit at the expense of a defensive minded midfielder. That 3 man midfield would no doubt be the most devastating in world football plus the added benefit of Alves and Cole joining in on the wings. That team would have like 80% possesion guaranteed and the players up front who would be able to stick it in the net.

    i had.
