Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Dodgy car dealers

    Hi all I need help!!!

I bought a 06 VW Passat 2 weeks ago. From the moment I got it the clutch was high (as in you had to press it half way down to get any pressure to get the clutch to work) I just figured this was what the clutch was like on these cars. Since then it has got worse the clutch sticks to the floor and doesn't come pack up unless you put your foot under it and flick it back up.

I got my mechanic to look at it and he says its one of two things the slave cylinder or the pressure plate.

I brought it back to dealer and after a few hours he rang and said he had been driving it and he got their mechanic to check it he said there is nothing wrong and there is no more he can do come collect it.

Now everyone who has drove it has said there is problems. Can anyone tell me what rights I have here the car costs me over 10k and it feels like a waste at the minute. has anyone had a problem like this before.

    T

Nip it in the bud as quick as possible. Tell the selling dealer you want an independent engineer to check the clutch, and you will split the expense. Most warranties dont cover clutch, but 2 weeks is nothing, and if he reckons its ok now, when you obviously disagree, he should be happy to stand by the independent's findings. But so should you. Remember, hes not neccessarily a dodgy dealer, he just might have a useless mechanic!

I would agree with Oregano, if approaching them directly/over the phone doesn't work then I'd recommend you put details of same in a letter and send it to them by registered post.

Keep a record of all contact/dates you've had with the garage.
If they're a dealer attached to a large group ie, a VW dealer then might be no harm also sending a copy of same registered letter to their head office.

Businesses tend to respond moreso to a letter, I find anyway!

It will also help if you need to take the matter further, as you can prove that you took action quickly after realising the fault.

Best of luck with it, I hope you get sorted :)

On a somewhat related matter, why wouldn't you have driven more than just this Passat before buying it? I mean, it's not as though they're not ten a penny. Did you seriously only drive 1 of them, before spending 10k on it?

€10k without an inspection, and without driving any more than this one? I'm sorry, but I can't really bring myself to give you the benefit of the doubt here and trust your instincts or judgement on the condition of the car or the quality of advice you're getting from your mechanic or the dealers.... Who knows, but I'd guess you don't anyway....sorry.

Bring it to a VAG dealer and ask them to take it for a quick spin and see if the clutch needs attention. That way you'll know.... ;)
