Its great to see the plethora of new boards lecturer members making such valuable contributions like that to the WIT forums over the last few days.

The current 4th years are only trying to get a decent result that will give them half a shot at getting a job next year, and if the threatened action continues Thursday week it only serves to show the contempt the lecturers hold for final year students.

Come next September these lecturers will still be in their priveledged positions while half your students will no doubt be out of the country or on the dole.

A pay cut...a huge disaster in a deflationary economy no doubt...

I just have respect for a picket and have been brought up that way. You don't have to be in WIT to study and amazingly if study is so important how come people can post on here so often.

Thats your choice and I respect you for it. Now, do us a favour and respect the students across the country who wanted to carry on as normal and refused to be stopped by a strike so walked past them. Shame on those who were upset by that and verbally abused students or blocked them from passing.

Its a bad time of the year for students to have a strike. We have exams, assignments, projects etc. Nobody joined them on their strikes on fees either and demanded we go to class as normal. It works both ways.

What happens if strikes carry on into the exams? I don't want to have prepared well to have them deferred to after christmas, we were told this week that any missed college education activity by order of the union could not be made up by lecturers so that must follow through for exams if thats the case. Would we all get exemptions, i bloody well doubt it.

To be fair i've spoken to quiet a few lecturers on the topic and the general consesus relayed to me by them was that they weren't too arsed striking, because they know it wont make a difference. I think the lecturers have rights to strike but they are putting themselves at a lose poor yesterday and possibly next week. But it is the unions right to strike and the lecturers also. I would never pass a picket line myself, but i feel that lecturers are being ignorant to expect students not to cross it. Alot of fourth years are feeling the pressure now, and a lot of fourth years may not have the luxury of a quiet house at home seeing as their siblings would be home from school today because of the strike. It's unfair for you homolumo to come on here looking down on a student. I agree with you that you shouldn't cross a picket but an exception in this circumstance should be made to students who are under serious pressure with upcoming exams and who are at the lose of todays lectures.
