Hi i am going to Madrid later this year for a bit.

I was thinking of playing some live poker while i am there.

I was wondering if anyone had any info ?

I have been looking at Casino Gran Madrid.

It seems to be a bit out of the way?

    Anyone have any experiences?

    Or any other places?

What is the general standard like?

And do they mind english speakers , woul di have any problems at the table.

    I appreciate any info,

    Thank you:)

    Lou

    This place?
    http://www.casinodemadrid.es/en/index.htm

Its actually slap bang in the middle of Madrid, right beside Peurto De Sol.

My hotel was about 200 metres from it, but I never ventured up to it. I'd looked at the web site before hand and it looked more like a ridiculously posh Young Torys club than a casino.
Also I'd trawled through the website and seen no mention of poker (or any gambling at all) so I think the name 'casino' might just be historic.

It is not a casino.(unless i am hugely mistaken but i am almost certain it is not!)

But thanks for taking the time to reply:):):)

The place i was looking at is this

Street hookers provide €30 heads up sit&go's. No limit, blinds 30 mins.

Ive lived in Madrid for the past year. I use to play in the Fitz alot back at home but since I have moved here ive only played once live. It was in that casino you mentioned, Madrid Gran Casino. I don't remember the exact amount but the rake is ridiculous and ive never gone back. They weren't exactly the friendliest bunch but there was decent games there. Im pretty sure there was a 10/20 game going which looked pretty juicy. If you have no spanish it could be a bit tricky as the english spoken by staff wasn't great. There are apparently loads of back alley casinos and one of my mates used to go to a few of them every now and then but I never tagged along.

You only need to learn like 4 words of spanish, it's not that hard imo.

I meant if you dont have a liitle bit of spanish it can be tricky to get into a game you want or ask how long you'll be waiting or what the min buyin is or whatever. I wasn't referring to table play.

I've been to play in Madrid a few times. There's only 2 casinos as far as I know and both are well outside of the city, one, the one you are talking about is about half an hour to the north and one is about 55 mins to the South (Aranjuez). The first one is the better one. The rake is fairly steep alright, but the games are juicy enough. It's a pretty good casino game wise as well - the games kick off early enough, about 5 p.m and last until about 4 or 5 a.m. There is a free bus service provided by both casinos also, running about every 2 hours or so. still the biggest drawback for me was the location, you can't exactly pop back to your hotel room for a quick nap.

Regarding English speaking - The Spanish in general don't know much English, very few of the players speak English, but by and large they are not bad bunch, some of the staff there have a bit of English and I found them reasonably friendly.
