Change from Eircom 3 mb to this super UPC 15 mb ultrafast, this is the speed that I get any given time, after restart modem and computer still the same. Changing from Eircom censorship to UPC Internet freedom is not attractive with this speed.

    OK Guys N Gals

How about this ..... I am with UPC in Dublin 15, on a 15MB line and with Digital. Got it in last May and to be honest, it was really excellent till 13th Sept this year. Then, for what ever reason the TV signal stred dropping and sometimes went altogether. BB always seemed fine, but since yesterday I wsa getting slow speeds so checked with speedtest.net and on checking late last night found I was getting download speeds around 2MB and uploads around 0.10 MB. The only spedetest server that gave a reasonable speed was in Sligo, which gave a reading similar to the UPC site mentioned below.

Strangely all the servers that the programme found were in Galway, Sligo and Limerick....none in Dublin

    Then a check on UPC's website ( speedtest.upc.ie ) shows a 14.7 download and 1.34 upload which is good.

    Question is..

any ideas why the UPC site gives better readings ( conspiracy theory..?) and how come the speedtest.net site cant find a Dublin server

This using the "Galway" server" ...
    1073327716.png

Then this result from UPC's speedtest site ..

Download Speed: 14632 kbps (1829 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1270 kbps (158.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
    Latency: 11 ms
    16 December 2010 17:33:04

    All these within 5 mins

I am on a 15MB package with UPC and in Dublin 15

Love to hear anyones comments please

Currently getting less than 0.5mb on my 8mb Vodafone package tonight in North Cork.

I know it's "upto" 8mb, but this is just a joke.

Getting a result of about 14mb on the UPC speed test but all others giving nearer to 1.08mb or in around that. Suspicious alright. Tend to believe speedtest.net at the moment as YouTube videos not exactly loading fast. anybody hear anything from UPC about this?

Magnet 24mb just recently installed in my new house (had it in my last apartment across the road).

I'm wireless, but in the same room. Might connect it up and see what speeds I get...

    1080218309.png

    30666521.png

That's 2.43MB/s for anyone who can't work it out.

Can't really have any complaints :) the jitter is not usually even 2ms, its usually 0 (which I thought should really be sort of impossible).

Nonetheless, on a good line, and literally 1 minute walk from the exchange.

    I'm happy with that ::)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,692 ✭✭✭Dublin_Gunner

And here are the results over ethernet:
    1080240992.png

    Thats 2.7MB/s...

    30667663.png

pingtest pretty much the same as wireless.

So all in all I'm not far off the 24Mbit connection I pay for.

I'm with 3 wireless broadband,I've a E5830 modem, supposed to have a Download Speed of up to 7.2Mb/s,The results are in and are crap!!!!:eek:Did both tests a couple of times and there appears to great variance in all the results, obviously the nature of the traffic on the internet, the quality of my connection/limitations of my bandwidth. But it is quite shocking what one achieves as compared with what they say you can achieve.

I assume wireless N and near enough to the router?

It wouldn;t be uncommon to receive higher than expected speeds on UPC, happens quite a lot, particularly when they're upgrading their equipment in your area.

Fact is, speedtest will not report a HIGHER result than your line will allow.

yep,...Scientific Atlanta EPC2203 UPC supplied modem,..my own D-link wireless N router not supplied by upc,...12ft away in an alcove not a clear line of site.

Just upgraded to UPC's 30 Mbit package, but in reality only getting about 4-6Mbit when downloading a large file (eg Ubuntu image). I'm using Win7.

When I try it on my phone, I get:
    1097377907.png

The upload seems right on both devices but the download is wildly wrong on Win7, but about right (accurate, not what I should be getting) on my phone.

Anyway, does anyone have any tips on how to get my full 30 Mbit (or 90% of it)? I'm using the same E08C007 modem that NTL supplied at least 4 years agp, and a new Netgear wireless router. Results are about the same over ethernet. Latest WiFi drivers installed.

Is the problem more likely on my side or UPC's?

Oh yes it will!! I've never got a realistic result from speedtest.net on Vista or 7 on my UPC connection (see my post just above). Usually it reports 100-200 Mbit. But when I try to dl a 100 MB file, it could easily take an hour...

Try connect wired to the modem, the Cisco is notoriously bad at wireless.
