Thought I was seeing things. With so much negativity about Eircom. All working well for you?

Had a few issues at the very start but it's all good now!

    150mb UPC

Went from 24mb NGB Eircom (which was 5mb really never got more).

I did get 110mb on one test but tbh compared to what it was and the issues i had i can live with the above.

Does that include line rental? Give us a price breakdown and what packages do Eircom offer on fiber broadband? Can't see anything on their site.

Where are you located? Is that just the broadband or a bundle?

I don't really understand. Which do I trust for ping?
    2538668516.png

    OR

    77748926.png

It's not a one off occurrence. Speedtest gives a much higher ping for me than pingtest. Any ideas?

    Try ping via cmd prompt.

I pinged my modem just there using cmd and got 3ms. I then set it up to ping youtube and got 48ms. What's the deal with speedtest?

    ping eircom.net

Average ping of 38ms from www.eircom.net. That means the speedtest on eircom is wrong too.

Do a tracert to any website. Then ping the second hop which should be a router an your exchange this will give the ping from your network your exchange.

By sending a ping command it uses a raw icmp echo request cuts out all the java and browser delay.

Tracert to youtube on the second hop gave 42ms 37ms 38ms. I then pinged the corresponding address. I got an average of 37 ms.

37 seems normal for a dsl connection.
I had 29-32ms when I was on adsl and synced at 10mb

But of course a ping can vary, if you want to lower your ping you could request to have interleaving switched off depending on your line stats.
But realistically you won't see any difference.

Is it normal to be only getting 20-25mb on UPC in the days after the install?

I remember being told it can take up to 10 days fro the modem/router to settle in. Could be a myth but it might be true.

    Wireless. Its usually ~12mb though.

    Wireless. Its usually ~12mb though.

Try a wired connection and if you are getting lower than 50 (I assume that's what you're on) get in contact with UPC. If you're getting 50 wired and 12 wireless, you might have a faulty router or you're device might not be n capable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 813 ✭✭✭IrishStuff09

Just tried a wired connection and am impressed :) Only supposed to get 50MB, and didn't get a text about being upgraded.

After your speedtest has finished, you'll see a "forum link" to copy and paste on here.

I looked at your pingtest result. You need to lower your router's firewall to get a proper test.

Higher than normal...usually get 5.4 on the 8MB line. 600m's from cab (top of estate).

hi harry, yes fiber, its called the 'eircom Fibre Broadband 25', so that's download speed of 25MB, and a usage allowance of 100GB and that's €40 pm, I also have the phone (talk anytime) with them so all in it's €55 pm.

Thanks for replying. What's the advertised upload speed? The download cap is disappointing. I hope it improves by this time next year because that's when I should be upgrading, I hope.

Do you know what other packages are available?

Are you working for them? That price is extremely bad.

Yes it is a massive €6.75 pm more than the present Sky offering which from reading other threads on here has had a lot of teething problems.

According to their TV advert they don't. But I can't remember what figure they said they are offering for downloads. It was an advert about their bundles.

There is no cap with Sky. Its unlimited.

I should say that they do have a "lite" option thats free but thats a 2gb cap and is geared only towards people primarily looking for the phone/land line only.

    Details here
