Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yes the building is just down the road from me, I thought it was only for tv because there's a big tower.

Sorry, forgot to state in my first post it's a wireless connection. I'm in the same room as the router though, laptops never further than 20 feet away from it.

Exactly what I suspected. Your noise margin is horribly low, when it drops below 7.0 db your line becomes unstable. Does your connection regularly drop-out?

You can read more about your problem here: http://www.speedguide.net/faq_in_q.php?qid=355

Best thing to do is contact Eircom about it and see if they can do anything.

I did test at 8.50am this morning and got upload speed of 2.16Mpbs and dowload of 2.69Mbps. Been keeping an eye on how fast pages are loading over the last few days and come to the conclusion that if I want to get anything done on the interweb then I must do it before about 7pm in the evening. Took speed tests after this time and have gotten results as low as 0.12Mbps (Upload).

(Usibng 3Mobile wireless broadband and based outside Athlone)

12Mb/1Mb Imagine DSL. Always this speed, never had an issue in the last year. Pings are usually 30 ish.

The common man is just as badly off over there from some of the comments on the link e.g.

    22nd January 2014 - 15:36
I live in a small village in Wakefield (near Leeds)and where I live we get half a meg broadband speed. this means in my house we cannot stream any movies online at all, we cannot have a person on facebook and someone on the ps3, we can use anytime but it takes about 3 hours just to get to about 50% on a one hour tv show. instead of testing max speed why don't they get all of the country connected

I rang them and they told me to try a different mirco filter and change my wireless settings.
I was talking to an eircom tech that was in the village he told me its down to contention on the line.

    UPC 120Mb Horizon package:

It has been like this very recently, usually speeds of 70Mb/s to 95Mb/s. Gonna have to get on to them about this tomorrow.

    :(

Is it the same in the UPC speed test ?

If it is then probably an RF issue, tech can sort that out for sure

Just upgraded to the new 120mb from 50mb and astonished at the difference! One thing I have to hand to UPC is at least with it being cable, you stand a good chance of getting the speeds they advertise! Unlike DSL

Here's just with basic laptop WiFi (Standard UPC Technicolour 7200 no bridges/or other router):

Here's using plugged directly to the TC 7200:

was getting higher speeds this afternoon... very happy customer here :D

Had an upgrade from Vodafone Thursday...

    From 8mb to 10mb.

8mb used to be passable most of the time. Guess it needs to settle down a bit?

After a week of Vodafone fibre it has remained completely constant 24/7. Very happy with it. I'm about 800M or so from the cabinet.

They're identical. Regardless of the time of day it's perfect. I've never had a problem though with ADSL either except for a few weeks which was a SKY broadband issue. I suspect the exchange I am connected to has plenty backhaul.

    Here's one I prepared earlier!

    Broadband: Connected
    DSL Mode: ADSL_G.dmt
    Speed: 7168 kbps /384 kbps
    Line Attenuation (Down/Up): 35 dB /17 dB
DSL Noise Margin: 15 dB /28 dB

2.5KM from exchange. Any way I can go to to adsl2 improve my speed at all? 40ms ping inside ireland, no packet loss

My exchange isn't on eircoms fibre to cabinet 2014 thing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,401 ✭✭✭Nonoperational

If your exchange is ADSL2 enabled then you should be able to.

its a little white box on the roof needing line of site from their transmitter, (the same line of site that the ripplecom was using) so i guess you call that fixed wireless?
    no landline here
