Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Live nearer the server.

I do, one is about 2 minutes away from me.

Still get a ping of 15ms+

Very nice indeed. No sign of vectoring on my cabinet at all.

Same here, does anyone know do Eircom just upgrade you or do you have to ask them? Also do they give the free upgrade to both the old packages of 50/15 and 70/20?

I joined Vodafone only recently so I was put straight onto the 100/20 profile but I'm sure they'll upgrade you as soon as it's in your area.

Probably just takes a modem reboot and you're done.

It was just a joke sorry. Not a very good one mind.

I don't totally trust the online speed tests. Try in DOS pinging google.ie and google.co.uk, I get rock solid pings of 6 and 15 respectively, that's pretty damn good.

My current internet situation with eFibre:
    Download: 95.96MBPS
    Upload: 19.26MBPS
    Ping: 10MS

I can't link the speedtest due to being a new user.

Aw i dream of these sort of speeds, all i can do is look on in envy and cry with my little 8mb.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,585 ✭✭✭jca

The way things are going with my eFibre connection I'll be back to 8 meg soon. My speed is almost half what I was originally getting when I was connected back in December. I was getting 48/19 today it's 23/12. Not good at all.

    Did you get Evision too?

I'm starting a free trial of eVision next Tuesday afternoon. Would they have dropped my speed already? According to the router stats my profile is now 34/15 with my attainable rate now down to 41/20. I'm posting from my phone so the figures aren't exact.

Yes, when we went with evision we were moved off a 50/20 profile onto a 34/20 one for stability. It's been good though!

Thanks for that. I'll see how it goes. The TV I'm connecting it to is upstairs with the router downstairs wired to a desktop. How do they connect to the eVision box?

As far as I'm aware they use powerline adapters from the router to the eVision box.

The Ennis server isn't right, don't trust the pings from it.

Ages ago loads of people were getting 0 pings.

I'm on what Vodafone label as "a non standard delivery line" capable of delivering 1Mb max download speed. Currently my synch speed is 503kbit/s, which is par for the course for me. On a recent visit an Eircom engineer said my line was delivering 1.2Mb/s. What has changed recently after a modem re-boot is that the info is displaying my line as ADSL2+ rather than the usual ASDL2, but with no increase in speed. Any ideas as to why the Line standard should change & what can I now expect? Should I now leave the router/line connection be to learn & possibly develop somewhat higher speeds in the future or is that just folly?
    Line standard ADSL2+
    Downstream line rate (kbit/s) 503
    Upstream line rate (kbit/s) 124
    Downstream SNR (dB) 6.6
    Upstream SNR (dB) 17.9
    Downstream line attenuation (dB) 76
    Upstream line attenuation (dB) 50
    Downstream output power (dBmV) 0
    Upstream output power (dBmV) 12.6

The line standard probably changed because the modem has detected an upgrade at the exchange via the line. Just a guess. You won't see a change unless a fibre cabinet is nearer to you. The Exchange is 5km away.

There's a fibre cab 2.2km - road disatance away, but God only knows what way the lines travel.

Very impressive for WiFi. I think didn't eircom's routers were capable of that speed.

I've a new laptop, and am on the 70/20 profile, yet only get 30 wireless.

It all depends on the wireless card in the laptop too. People getting great wireless speeds with MacBooks.

how far are you from the cabinet?

If you have line stats can you post them up (Noise margin, Attenuation etc.)

    Solid connection!

It would be interesting to see them.

192.168.1.254 <--- Put that in your address bar and login.

Go to system monitor, click ''xDSL statistics'' and screencap it.

Your getting incredible speeds being further than I am from the cabinet.

I suspect your attainable is through the roof!

    :D

I wonder will we ever see Eircom using the 30a profile in use or will Eircom milk this for as long as they can.

That's true but you're still getting very respectable speeds nonetheless!

When Fibre does come to your area which you can check on the Eircom website then depending on how far/near you are to the Cabinet you could get speeds similar to mine!

Or maybe even better if you're really close :P

That's why Eircom are delaying the Exchange VDSL.

Any proof of that? Sky are waiting until everyone is finished their initial 12/18 month contracts so they won't have to pay for the install.

I'm sure it's to do with their Sky Hub, the FTTC in England is only 76/20 and I'm not sure if it's a requirment to have their equipment Vectoring enabled or not.

So maybe their Sky Hub SR102 can't handle the Irish FTTC speeds or up to 100/20?

Also, I highly doubt Sky would bring out a Sky Hub especially for us!

They already have to provide firmware tweaks for the irish market. UK DSL network uses PPPoA and eircom use PPPoE. I know the sky hub 3/4 support VDSL but not sure about vectoring.

Sky have opted to not go for vdsl here yet, as JCA posted what I suggested a few months back, its a method of cost saving by getting the other line ops to pay. Install fees will be similar for exchange VDSL though as it still requires a site visit, so Im now not sure them holding it up would match that approach. We'll probably never know the real details anyways.

Really enjoying the FTTH. Even though it's *only* 100Mbps, I get much better speeds torrenting than I ever did with UPC on 150Mbps.

My best bet is that I get prioritised by other peers and seeds on downloads because of the really low ping.

I don't trust speedtest.net for pings (they've been all over the place recently) but a pingtest from dublin to galway in 8ms is pretty good! :D

not so far and i've been using over 1tb per month for the last few months. :D

Also, I think the ping might have been correct after all!

just did a pingtest from my router to www.heanet.ie and this was the result.
