Ooh,and just to illustrate the importance of speedtesting over a ethernet cable... this is the result taken using WLAN:

Perlico wireless Home Broadband, North county Dublin.

Originally signed up for 1MB, got a letter a few months ago saying we were automatically getting upgraded to 3MB for free, but according to my account details, we're still on 1MB. I've e-mailed them for clarification.

OK, so no discussion on this thread, so where I go to find out what I can do about this farce?

UPC 15Mb package installed about an hour ago:

Pretty chuffed I must say, fingers crossed for continued figures like those. I migrated from VF (Ex BT Up To 8Mb), the line only gave me about 5Mb. Got rid of sky into the bargain, got a cheaper package from UPC & channels for an extra bedroom too - halved the monthly tv/bb bill & can now tell Eircom bye bye line rental. Yes, today is a good day :pac:

Got the UPC 30/3 Fibre package installed yesterday.

Download was at 30mb for a few hours after the lad left and since then its been at 22.5mb exactly everytime ive checked.

Upload is obviously fantastic and ping is great.

    902717932.png

    21551799.png

Installation was quick and simple and so far id recommend them to anyone, even if im not getting the full 30mb download yet :)

2.5mb is what you should expect with decent pings from a 3mb line, what you have is not what you are paying for!

    Constantly this speed.

    cisco2425 upc router
    wireless.
when wired connection, its slightly faster, maybe 21mb

    Is this normal????
or should i be contacting support?

only reason i ask is that i see people on a 15mb connection getting 14.7 etc...
im getting like 4-5mb faster when it should be more like 10+mb faster..

    am i getting things wrong?

    thanks ppl :-)

Yeah i saw, any reason for that? Turned off firewall, was just installed yesterday and was told might be a few hours before full signal is going through

Gonna try the ethernet when i get home tonight. :D

Some UPC connects aren't that great. Maybe thats why. Or maybe it's your router? Try your ethernet cable and if you see a major improvement then maybe upgrade your router? If your still only getting 12mbs then maybe you should downgrade to the 15mbs package. That way u'd pay less and still get the same speed. ( please note there is a 15 euro downgrade fee ) :P

Whats this about turning of the firewall? Got upc 30 pack. Upload always hits 3 but download goes from 7-20. ping is always 36-37 and packet always gets lost. What does the packet loss thing mean anyways?

Yep I'm 99% sure that it's your firewall that's causing that. Data is sent in packets (like food is sent in packets). Packet loss is when data packets that were sent are never received. Anything above 0% is bad and usually only caused by router firewalls. To turn off a router firewall look at the label on your router( it usually tells you the website to search and the username and pass code) Once you do that you will get into your router setting. You should see firewall settings there. Uncheck/turn off everything that's on. That should fix your problem. If your a bit confused or have any questions feel free to ask. :)

When i do the speed test for galway(which is where i am) i get like 10down 3up and 38ping but when i check it with the dublin server i always get 21down 3up and 26ping. So how do i make sure im using dublins server and not galways? I have UPC 30 pack.
