Eircom.net (google) search

My clients site has been up for 2 years. Found on google with reasonable search words. Absolutely cannot be found on eircom.net google enhanced search. No matter what. For reference client is nbtrans.ie, simple little brochure site.
Anyone had a similar experience to this?

Exactly, but different results. See this example, search term 'hosting' in both cases for results from Ireland

Not very different, but different.

For my client search 'refrigeration transport waterford' he comes #4 in google and my site comes #5 because I link to him. But no results in eircom.net.

I thought I replied earlier, but I dont see it.

If you leave out Ireland and do a search, the results are the same as gl=US (Geo-location = United States). Eircom results are almost exactly the same as US search. If you leave Ireland as a keyword in the phrase, then you will expect to get mostly Irish sites (which use that word)

Search for SEO (which in Google.ie Pages from World, shows Irish searches)

They aren't exactly the same. Similar but differences below the first two, first in ordering, then in actual results. See below. So, is Eircom pulling from a slightly different database? The clue is in IOL search. Same results as Eircom. But then The Google search on RTE.ie gives different results again.

They won't be 100% exactly the same because there are other different parameters going through, like the ISO charset and so on. We can't see what exact settings eircom are using but the settings we used are going still affect the rankings as we're still skewing it. God knows what parameters eircom are sending or why but I would agree, it's not good for the user.

I'm not 100% but I think RTE and Eircom could be using Google Custom Search Engines/ Google CSEs so the search engine will search for what RTE and Eircom want them to or at least they have a say in what should be shown. You can't really optimise for CSEs because if the site owner doesn't want you to be found you won't. I would tend to concentrate on getting the sites optimised for Google.

You say it is found under 'reasonable' search terms but I couldn't find the site through google at all.

Found at no. 5 using refrigerated transport waterford.

Just tested again on eircom. THIS POST comes up in the search results for Ireland, but not my client.

Search for noel brennan transport waterford on google gets him at no.1 because that's his business name. Still nowhere in eircom.

Just wondering - are eircom doing this to boost adwords sales/CTR's?

You sure you're not seeing google personalised search results? Are you logged in to google?

eircom.net is almost definitely pulling US results - whether this is intentional or not. I'm definitely not logged into Google and I don't think my personal results would be tailoured to the USA either.

Not sure how that would effect things. After all an eircom site can't know whether you are logged in to google. The eircom google search isn't a google iframe.
