Simple question on what script/effect to use

I have a long list of items (basically hardware items - several models from brand1, then several from brand2 etc) and I want to arrange it so that what is first seen it's just the brand names and only when you click an arrow next to a name it opens a sublist with the actual items, without reloading the page, like here:

Original list:
Brand 1 v
Brand 2 v
Brand 3 v

After you choose:

Brand 1 v
Brand 2 >
item 1
item 2
item 3
Brand 3 v

I'm having a slow day and I can't remember what this effect is called. Help?...

Thank you this should work! Yes I got fixated on dropdown menus from the start and couldn't think of any other options.

It's called a tree view. There is a JQuery plugin that does it, that would mean much neater markup. Check this out:
