Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What makes the Canon G10/Panasonic GF1 so great?

    Hi,
I have a Panasonic FZ28. I like it- great zoom, macro etc.
It struggles with photos in low light though.

I'm just wondering what's the great appeal of the likes of the G10 or the Panasonic GF1?
Better in low light I'd imagine but what else?
    Wider aperture choice
    Faster focus

    cheers,
    Pa.

Well whatever about the GF1, which has a 4/3rds size sensor which certainly would be better in low light, the Canon G10 has the same piddly sized sensor as a lot of other compacts. The Canon G9/10/11 have a certain amount of appeal because they're solid robust compacts with good manual controls and a hotshoe so they make ideal 2nd walkaround cameras for otherwise DSLR toting photographers.

Plus the GF1 can accept a whole host of lenses.

Want wide angle? 7-14 f4 or an upcoming 9-18
Want a normal zoom? 14-42 or 14-45 with IS
    Want a standard? 20mm f1.7
Want tele? 45-200 or an upcoming 14-150 "superzoom"

    Plus bigger sensor as mentioned.

the only difference with the G 7/9/10/11 is they have a viewfinder, and yes a tiny sensor.

i'd much prefer if they had Micro Four Thirds sensor.

I'd get a Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 or the Olympus E-P2 (which you can get a viewfinder for) but for the inconvenience of collecting another load of lens.

I'd like to see Canon producing something like either of the above.

    :)
