Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

around 32km each way, is the poll one way or return distance?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,714 ✭✭✭no1beemerfan

I do 87 kms to work so a total of 174 kms a day. Doing it for almost 12 years now and got sick of it years ago!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,699 ✭✭✭✭R.O.R

62kms each way. Not too bad as I can do it in less than an hour if the M50 isn't jammed.

90% is Motorway with a good bit of the rest being the old N1.

Mine varies depending on whether I go home or stay down...about 40km if I stay or 260km if I go home...average goes in:D

    150km each way 5 days a week :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,294 ✭✭✭✭Penn

70 miles total, which by my calculations is 112km. Which is why I bought a diesel a few months back. Saving nearly 40% a week in fuel costs

5 km. Less driving & more buses due to restricted parking at work.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,815 ✭✭✭✭Anan1

0 kms, I work from home.:)

    Varies ..2 days * 250 miles
    2 days * 100 miles
    1 day * 6 miles
so about 700 miles a week commute
OMG 224 km a day on avg ..... i must be crazy ;/

It's 4 km to the office from here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,451 ✭✭✭CharlieCroker

    20km altogether.

    How come??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,819 ✭✭✭✭peasant

    How come??

just curious ...and to get an idea of how car dependent we really are

but of the two extremes in the poll ...the under 5's should seriously consider walking/cycling and the over 150's might want to think about moving house (if possible)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,451 ✭✭✭CharlieCroker

I'd agree with the less than 5's. assuming 2.5 each way, you'd walk it in 20 mins and you'd prob cycle quicker than drive with traffic and finding parking.

I misread the daily bit so I get pushed into next bracket. Am I safe from walking? ;)

Im in college, so if that counts as work its about a 200 yard 'commute' :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,484 ✭✭✭✭Stephen

    Mine's about 15km each way.

my commute is a total of 206kms everyday. I love driving but not this much.

4.1 kms each way, I'd get public transport if there was a direct bus but there isn't, when my car was in the garage one week it took me 40 mins between walking to the bus, waiting for it, sitting on it and walking again at the other end. It'd be an ok cycle in distance terms but there's a lot of dual carriageway and three unpleasant roundabouts, so no thanks to that (plus my bike went AWOL a while back). 6-7 minutes in the car is much more preferable.

    46 miles each way = 92 miles a day = roughly 151km a day

SOooooooo glad I bought a diesel this year :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,279 ✭✭✭PaulKK

    70km a day

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,946 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

Varies from day to day - minimum of 70km return.

Put it this way.. When I bought my current car (06 reg) in April 08 it had 56000 km on it.. last Friday she went in for her 120000 km service! :o

You'll often see married couples commuting in opposite directions. My OH and me used to do over 50k to work. Taken as a total between two of us we'd do 206k per day, round trip.

Never even got so much as a free fuhken mug from the petrol station! Bring back Esso Tiger Tokens IMO.

124 mile round trip to college and back every day

    its bloody brilliant.

Next year, I'll be doing ~120KM ew.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,660 ✭✭✭Voodoomelon

I've done 22,553km in exactly 18 months, so about 40km a day. And that costs me about 50 quid a week in petrol. :o

Unemployed, 600 metres to the post office :)
    I usually walk.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,800 ✭✭✭Senna

A round trip of about 30km, on quite roads.

Just purchased a diesel and got rid of the 2.2ltr petrol. I probably dont need a diesel but the difference in fuels costs every week are huge:D

p.s i sympathise with anyone doing over 100km per day commuting, especially seen i'm sure its not all open roads Sunday style driving.

roughly 130kms round trip from navan to sandyford. not too bad in the mornings as i leave early enough but in the evenings can be a pain.

Fully agree, if I was within 10km of work I'd be cycling save me a bloody fortune and give me excercise so its all win win :)

    28km each way - so I'm just into the < 80 catagory.

Still in a petrol car, but I think the next one will be a diesel. But it only takes me 30 minutes each way, so it doesn't seem so far. (I previously had a shorter commute which took longer!)
