Lazy feckers - sounds like they just ran the gameplay and sound through some remastering software and hashed it straight out. So we are basically getting charged about £16 quid for a few blu ray disks and very little effort. GOW3 is excellent and I was planning to buy the collection but if they havent updated the cut scenes they can whistle.

Yep, cause the enjoyment you get out of games these days is directly proportional to the quality of the cut scenes.

Is the trilogy box set thing out here yet? It was supposed to be out on the 30th.

    directly proportional? dont be silly

It is however a deal breaker for me since i would expect a PS2 game upgraded to HD not to be a half assed effort - if i want to watch the cut scenes on my PS2 i can since i already have them.

That's just I and II, isn't it? I very much doubt you'd get GOW III on it's own for that, let alone all three of them

Been going through Pandora's temple again.

Must say it's probably the best designed video game stage in a 3D adventure game along with The Water Temple in Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Pandora's does borrow a lot from it though, and maybe even surpasses it.
I can't really remember though, been about 10 years since I played OOT.

Five years later I beat God of War!

I got stuck on the sword fight with Ares 5 years ago and this time around, I got stuck again!

However I found a great guide on gamefaqs and was able to defeat him. Basically when he roars attacking him with L1+x causes the game to go to a tug of war where you must tap O. if you win you do massive damage.

Thank Christ, only took me five years.

Bunch of easy trophies as well.

    +1 for the Pandora's Temple.

Finished the game last night......I can't believe I missed a game as good as this all those years ago. Straight into GoW II last night, but I may give it a rest and Fallout for a bit again. After all I have II, III and DFante's to go through, so I don't want to over do it on the slashing:D

    Oh, and the
The Towers of knives was an absolute barsteward.
I now understand why people smash their controllers with frustration.....

Didn't think what you mentioned in the spoiler was all that bad, plus you get a lovely gold trophy for doing the first one.

Taking a break before I play GOWII, my shoulder actually gets very sore in those bits where you have to rapidly press the button, ie for killing the minotaurs.

I lost count of the times I was knocked off or killed, TBH. Between that and
falling off the high beams in Hades palace. Oh, and the escape from the river Styx....:o

Bought this about two weeks ago. I actually got and completed GOW3 without having played the others and it really made me want to look into the rest of the story. Unfortunately I'm in the middle of my exams so I haven't played it too much. So far I've just started the Challenge of Poseidon. Have to say I'm annoyed at myself for not trying this series sooner!

Ares was an annoying boss in general. I spent a good two hours trying to beat him the first time, then got really annoyed by
    the part with Kratos' family
. I gave up and returned a few days later, when I managed to pass it fairly quickly.

Still, not my favourite boss fight ever!

I never completed God Of War on the PS2 because of this one bit! Gave up, never returned and got the sequel when it came out and only then remembered I hadn't completed the first one! Major regret, glad the collection is out now so I can rectify that!

two thirds through playing the first one now, i got killed a fair few times in a row at the 'floor of blades' section, and i ended up lowering the difficulty by accident and can't get it back to regular, is there any way that i can reset this guys do ya know or do i have to finish the game in easy?

    cheers in advance

To the best of my knowledge you have to reload a save point at the original difficulty if you have one. Though unless you're at the lowest difficulty, a few minutes of throwing yourself of a cliff or someit will grant you the difficulty change again after which you should be able to raise it methinks.

I got this last week and I'm stuck on Aries at the moment. I hate the way when you attack him at the start he gives you loads of heath & magic orbs but when you are hanging on at the end he doesn't give you a jot even if you land 20 blows in a row on him. Horrible boss battle  I also nearly put the controller though the window on the tower of blades.........before I finally reached the top I got within a hairs breath and a blade grazed me. I think the collision detection is off on that.

Also on the subject of the cut scenes, they start off looking terrible (well PS2 compared to PS3 terrible) but do improve as the game goes on. The cut scene where
Aries saves Kraytos from being killed by the Barbarians is impressive
and also the one just before the battle with Aries looked decent enough (720p?) quality to me.

There are ingame generated cutscenes and then there are CGI cutscenes (The ones that look good).

i am there aswell mate, died bout ten times but got him in the end.

here is a walkthrough if you get stuck on how to beat him. the blades in hell were a bit of a pain alright.
the collection is by far the best value for money.

I finally completed it lastnight, the very final battle
    (Aries 2)
was incredibility hard, so hard infact that I
needed to use easy mode to defeat Aries with that cumbersome Sword of the Gods. The first Aries fight isn't actually that hard, as a poster pointed out if you use magic, block his attacks and press L1 and X over and over you will get him pretty easily. The part with the family and multiple Kratos' was really annoying too but not as hard as I first thought on reflection. Epic finale to the game though!

Finished the second one now as well. Brilliant storylines to this, you really want to find out what happens. Last battle wasn't as hard as I expected
against Zeus. First 3 parts were ok, the last part with the button selection nearly drove me off my game. Having to go through all the lead in cutscene was very annoying. Changed it to easy to get past, then realised it was no easier than the normal difficulty, so did it all again......:o

Third one looks the mutt's nuts.....

finished this couple hours ago, 2 is the better one alright, both great games, been playing the third game last couple of hours. great game also but not as good as the second game so far, anybody else find that after playing the collection?

It is prettier, but not as good as the first two. I certainly haven't needed walkthroughs much with III. Still can't believe I missed out on those the first time around. It really is a brilliant story, and I'm going to miss it very shortly, as I don't think there's much left to do.

I thought the last battle was easier than a few of the god battles in the game and no comparison to the last battle in the second part where I desperately hoped not to die over and over again.

I finished it a few weeks ago and am near the end of GOW 3 now (I traded in The Collection and €15 for it) and have to say even though the graphics are obviously miles better I still think the first two are better games overall (GOW 2 is still my favourite).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,013 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

Ha, i ordered this last week and it came in the mail today. Stoked! Haven't played any of the GoW games to really looking forward to it :D

    That's my fav either.
I felt the third was a bit of a soulless
"oh we have to kill all olympic gods
    - and end the story as fast as we can" thing.

The second was way better in regards to story and creativity in game settings.

Yes, I'd agree. Last one just went on a long, long time.
