Oh absolutely. On top of the pay cuts already in the last 12 months. If I was a single person with kids on 30k in the public service I'd be devasted right now.

Also, LOL at the hypocritical triumvariate of cuts in public transport, carbon taxes and a car scrappage scheme? How we laugh at you Green Party, live it up cause you'll never see a minute in government again.

Some twat on the tv saying the scrappage scheme is a "boost to the industry". We'll have publicans on next, then accountants, then bookies, then *insert FF core voter type* all cheering on Leno and the boys. Makes me feel ill

Some lad on from KPMG saying that because you pay less you won't be taxed as much!! If anyone's looking for me I'm going home to bang my head against a peppledash wall! aaaarrrgggghhhh

Student Grants down 5%, that'll be popular. Richard Bruton giving 'Professor Ahern' a shout out too. I see our Professor managed to get in to the Dail today, I wonder if he still knows his way around the place.

LeixlipRed, spot on. They're really pushing this cheaper pints rubbish.

Are us mid-level staff out of a job next year?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,081 ✭✭✭LeixlipRed

That chick from IBEC was making me sick too. "We employ 800,000 people!!"

More like those 800,000 people are tools to be discarded in your search for pure profit.

Anyone going to Fintan O' Toole at six?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,081 ✭✭✭LeixlipRed

Hmmm, I'd forgotten about that. I think I'll have to give it a miss though. Haven't eaten all day bar a toffee crisp. Maybe that's why I feel ill.

Obviously it's true. If you're made redundant you pay no tax. Yipee!! He was implying that it was some sort of reward for lower pay though. Spin at it's finest.

No I don't think he was to be honest. I think he was referring to the fact that a 5% cut doesn't come to 5% of net pay and that it comes to less than that.

    Net Reduction

In all fairness, CPI has gone done by like 6% in the last year alone.

It certainly could have been worse for the <30,000 workers
loling at the two fingers FF gave to the public sector though!

Sure i feel sorry for all the public sector workers, but for me the budget doesn't cut any of my families income.
Vat back down by half a % and 40cent off a pint!

I'm not ignorant enough to not realise that yes of course we'll all be affected by this budget, but it's all not too bad for me lol :D

Did you actually see him or are you telling me what you think he said? The tone in his voice was one of rejoice that ones tax is lower.

Ok whatever then, I thought you were disputing his point.

Don't be so silly. And he has no point. It was a typical off the cuff comment from someone in a cushy job, like most FF supporters, who has no idea what these pay cuts mean to someone earning wages at the lowest level. "Oh, 5% pay cut, but chin up, your tax has decreased, sure isn't it great??"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,081 ✭✭✭LeixlipRed

He's on again. Less asshole like this time. He probably just realised his 100k mercedes people carrier will cost him a bomb in carbon tax.

Nope, would be put on expenses.

Interesting to see the four unions come out and say that social partnership is, in their minds, "over".
