So how much are you guys planning on spending this year (on presents)? Going all out or keeping it tight?

I'll spend as much as is necessary to get the job done.

Apart from snacks and alcohol I do not believe on buying things for the sake of it.

I'll get everyone close to me, friends and family, a gift or two regardless of the price. Could be €20 / €200 / €2000 who knows...as long as they like what they get then job done. I like bringing a smile to peoples' faces :)

I'm really looking forward to xmas.

If anyone tries to ruin my mood by posting anti-cheer messages in this thread they will get run over by my reindeer.

If you get an xmas tree and put it in a bucket with water it will last a long time.

Oh I love ham! Especially on a sandwich with brown sauce :)

Problem is I'm the only one in my family that eats it so we only get this tiny, scabby bit that doesn't last me more than one meal!

Turkey is a stupid meat, it's like eating cardboard

    I Love You

For any parents who want to feel the magic of xmas -On xmas eve, let the kids sprinkle flour on the hearth of your fireplace, when kiddies are in bed, stamp a boot print and make a reindeer footprint, this with the eaten mince pie and nibbled carrot is excellent. My better half did it last year and I got goosebumps when the kids saw it, they were sooo excited it was brilliant!!!:o

    Great idea!

When I was younger my Dad would mow the grass a few days before the big day but leave a little square unmowed. Then on christmas morning he would pull fistfuls of the grass out and make it look like the reindeer had been eating it :)

It's always the simple things that work the best!

    Ah yeah
Those are the things they'll remember, forget the bikes, nintendos etc, they will always look back and think of the magical little bits affiliated with Santa! Bless their cotton socks!!

My parents used to leave a pint of Guinness, and then Santa would drink it. I remember one year, my brother examined the glass to see if Santa left any hairs from his beard on the glass!

I'm going with homemade gifts this year to keep things reasonably inexpensive. There aren't any young children in the family, so I don't feel guilty about it. I know some people will feel cheated that they didn't get a store-bought gift but I think others will be happy with theirs and appreciate the time and effort I'm putting into it. So in cash terms it will be much less expensive than last year, but much more work for me (and my trusty sewing machine).

THIS AD! I find it hard to decide when I should start acknowledging christmas, so my general rule of thumb is, it's not xmas til I've hummed along with this on TV. :)
