Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

With Mervue and Kildare gone it leaves us with 20 teams. I assume Salthill Devon will come in so that's 21. Derry are more than likely to be in Division one and there's every indication that Cork will follow them. In that case Bray would probably be granted a place back in the Premier.

    Bray Wanderers
    Sporting Fingal
    Bohemians
    Galway United
    Dundalk
    UCD
    St. Patricks Ath
    Shamrock Rovers
    Sligo Rovers
    Drogheda United

I actually think the First division looks very interesting

    Athlone Town
    Limerick FC
    Shelbourne
    Wexford Youths
    Waterford United
    Derry City
    Finn Harps
    Longford Town
    Monaghan United
    Cork City
    Salthill Devon
    ?????????
    _________

This is just a rough guess as to how it will look but much can change between now and March. If Mervue do go then a new team will be needed. Will Tralee Dynamos or Carlow FC come in? Any thoughts? For fans of Premier clubs in Dublin, trips are few and far between. Sligo and Louth would be it.

Don't think its likely Cork will be relegated or that Mervue will exit. Think the only real question is whether Derry get a place in the First Division, and they probably will.

Alan Matthews was banging on about a one division league with 20 teams on local radio this week, reckons all stakeholders were interviewed and most are in favour of a one division league claiming that as teams play each other 4 times they are getting too familiar causing negative football.

If that happened, would there be relegations to the A League?

Without the threat of relegation the league would become stale with the same teams every year.

Rumouringly its going to be a 16 team league with no Cork or Derry.

Only problem i have with that is that some teams will be slaughtered every week and there will be 3 actual leagues within the 16 teams, top going for leagues middle playing for nothing and bottom. So kinda like every other league in the world :O

Not for next season surely? These things usually planned well in advance aren't they?

this is LOI, planning is not the top of agenda any year!!

I would prefer one league, twice is enough to play each other IMO and also playing against the best will bring on the lesser teams and also lead to bigger gates for the smaller clubs.

Just to point out, unless they change the structure, the season won't be 2010/11, it'll just be 2010

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Theres a league meeting a week before the licence deadline which will finalise the format. Think its the 8th and 16th is licence day.

    1. It's 2010, not 2010/11.

    2. Mervue aren't gone.

True. Their chairman confirmed they'll be playing in the league again next year a few weeks ago.
