for what it's worth the worst gig of the year

U2 1st night in Croke park - absolutely dreadful.

I barely went to five gigs this year but would reckon Nick Cave in Vicar Street (October) was the best.

Bruce Springsteen (2nd night) - RDS
    AC/DC - Point
    Stiff Little Fingers - Academy

There's a few gigs to go between now and the end of the year, so I'll wait until then before I fill the remaining two spaces :D
That top 5 in full, then:

Bruce Springsteen (2nd night) - RDS
    AC/DC - Point
    Stiff Little Fingers - Academy
    Marillion - Button Factory
    Horslips - Point

    Good job I waited :)

    1. Pixies (Olympia - Friday night)
    2. Modest Mouse (Academy - Monday night)
    3. Leonard Cohen (O2 - MOnday night)
    4. Dan Deacon (Andrews Lane)
    5. Nick Cave (Vicar Street)

    Pixies - Olympia
    Wilco - Vicar Street
    Grizzly Bear - Vicar Street
    Amadou & Miriam - EP

There are a few contenders for the 5th spot, Antlers last week were great, Billy Bragg at EP really was amazing, London Symphony Orchestra playing Mahlers 4th might actually make it - mind blowing. Trying to remember the gigs from the first half of the year, when did Magnetic Fields play Vicar St?

Out of curiosity what didn't you like about it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 650 ✭✭✭Aridstarling

    Lets see...

    Grizzly Bear at Vicar St
Cloud Castle Lake at a house party off Harcourt St.
    Howl at Knockanstockan
    Lisa Hannigan at Vicar St
    Cymbals Eat Guitars at Crawdaddy

That would probably do it, I cant really remember much more. I've been to a lot of gigs this year and its all a little crowded in my head. For instance, can't really remember anything about EP, I know there was something quite special there.

Just remembered it was Fleet Foxes and The Flaming Lips. They were pretty epic too. Fleet Foxes would probably take the fifth slot there, maybe over Cymbals Eat Guitars. The XX too, damn good. Leonard Cohen at the Point was a pretty special night too. Been a good year!

    1. Nightwish - Brixton Academy, London
    2. Epica - Paradiso, Amsterdam
    3. Diablo Swing Orchestra - Purple Turtle, Camden

Didnt make it to my 5th concert as something else came up. None of the shows I went to were disappointing in anyway. Only confirmed gig for next year so far...I better do something about that!

    Top 5:
    1. Aqua, Tivoli, Copenhagen, DK, 2009-08-07
    2. Miley Cyrus, Point Depot, Dublin, IE, 2009-12-17
    3. Cat Stevens (Yusuf Islam), Sheperds Bush Empire, London, UK,2009-05-28
    4. Lily Allen, The Academy, Dublin, IE, 2009-03-16
    5. Pink, Point Depot, Dublin, IE, 2009-04-20

    Biggest disappointments in 2009:
    1. Faith No More, Olympia Theatre, Dublin, IE,2009-08-27
(one of my all time favorite bands and I was so looking for ward to see them, just to find out that they dropped my two favorite songs from the set list on that night: we care a lot and from out of nowhere, while they played it on almost every other show on that tour)
    2. Testament, Point Depot, Dublin, IE, 2009-10-02
(same reason here, one of my all time favorites, but that night they left out all my favorite songs)
