Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Gary "The Dumptruck" Morris has been withdrawn for Cage Contender. We now require someone to replace him, we would much rather give this place to a top Irish featherweight than someone from overseas:)

Anyone interested contact me on: john@crew.ie

    Cheers

I am far from sliding away, i have a job i need to keep in this recession, us fighters in ireland cant pay our bills from MMA purses, i had 10-12 pro fights last year and that wouldnt even start to dent my bills for the year...I apologise for not taking part in these fights, others were through injury(which happens while fighting and training so hard to fight) i dont feel as though i need to explain myself, just simply stating how it is.
I regret that i've pulled out of these fights but things need to be done and work has been that thing which has caused me to miss alot of training, i doubt i'd be doing my club, John and Mark(the promoters) and even myself any justice turning up to fight 3 tough highly rated FW's(or anyone for that mater) being unfit, out of practice and generally just not in a professional fighters condition they should be in...apologies all round from me :(

Thanks for clearing that up Gary, we totally understand why you were pulled out and you have no need whatsoever to explain yourself. We are looking forward to having you on a show or 2 in 2010

ok i put the 3 champions in

    Tim Murphy (TW Champion)
    Mick Leonard (EFR Champion)
    Kevin Carney (Spartan Champion)
and i put( paul cowser )
i think that be a great show

I'd buy that as a PPV:).

We can only dream of this, hopefully all these guys will meet each other in the cage/ring sooner or later.

Carney and Cowzer already had a cracking fight, I'd love to see another.

Is anyone else astonished that Carney can make FW? The guys is massive for the division.

And he used to cut to Bantamweight!!
Although the last time he done it he developed a phobia of the sauna. So its FW for him until i can persuade him to strip to Bantam again.

Ferguson continued "I know its hard to believe that we have trouble getting the four top guys in a weight divison together at the same time. But thats just how it is. Of course we would prefer to have the Cage Contender tournaments fought out between the cream of Irish talent but up to now that just hasnt been possible for a host of reasons."

Why is it so hard to believe?
With so many shows on these days its getting harder by the minute to fill an under card let alone a pro main event requiring fighters to fight twice in one night.

Totaly agree with barry. These things happen and its nobodys fault.

I have trained in many clubs over the years, and alot off guys will put on gloves and bang away at 75% and most of the time someone will get hurt. Why dosent everyone put on shin pads, head gear and 16oz gloves and then bang at 60 - 80% it dosent mean your a pussy... Just Smart!!

True there are lots of shows now:). It is hard to believe in my opinion because for a fighter to be the best he must beat the best, and this concept provides a platform for that to happen!!! And agreed the winner must fight twice but thats why we set the rounds at 3x3 mins

There are alot of excellent feather weight competitors out there and your quote of 'to be the best he must beat the best' is slightly short sighted imvho. Some of the mma competitors in ireland have been competing for quite some time..some of them for the best part of 10 years infact and have fought one another in the past.

I credit u with a great idea..a great card and one that i would like to watch but i would imagine that there are many factors that could be at play here in accounting for not taking to 'the platform' that u provide..
for example - format of fighting twice may not suit some, family/work life in the way, cant get the training in, team mates in the same comp..etc..

David Patterson at EFR had been running these type of tournaments at his show at toombridge..i saw my first, maybe 4 or 5 years ago so its not a new idea. Great viewing tho..Paul cowzer and fergus fight springs to mind..what a war!!

well at 11 ya can box and Kickbox so its no big deal really..
nothing ya cant do in them sports..

If ya wanted to fight you should ask your coach as a lot of shows are putting on 1-2 teen fights these days. he might say no but you never know.

The main differnce is they wear head guards and bigger gloves.

We haven't had under 16s fight at our show with head shots. Wondering what is the general concensus among other shows out there?

I have been tempted to put teens in C class matches in TW, but I have decided against each time, simply because I don't think fans want to see a kid of a tender age get KO'ed. Just my two cents

    Mark-
Well with no knee's to the head its really D class, as i said i dont know if the other fights have knee's or not with teens.

    jason-
Headguards change nothing imo and most boxers i know who boxed before they where mandatory did not notice any difference, if anything it gives more target to hit, the gloves do make a difference for sure.

the main advantage is they stop cuts and im all for using more vaseline on the face to prevent cuts as it does not affect anything else if aplied only to the right areas and not blobbed on.

Yeah at the moment we side away from them.

I'm not entirely sold on the u16s not taking head shots as I realise its only a small part of the game and they do get hit to head in other sports.

I suppose we have to be a little more cautious with the publics perception of what we do and thats why we haven't.

Anyone know what the score is with shows in Europe or the states?

Never fought D class but they train to fight the way there going to fight so D class would be more foreign to them, I'm assuming you mean E class no head strikes though, as there more or less fighting D class.

Hope that helps, Looking forward to the show now..
