I tried Tesco's who used to do them but they don't stock tinned anymore, only the jar of antipasto which comes with olive oil and that won't work for my recipe.

I tried Dunnes and Superquinn online and they don't stock them either?

    Any ideas?

btw, the recipe is by Nevin Maguire. I've done it a few times and it is delicious and great for supper entertaining a few folk with some crusty french bread and a good bottle of white.....

I've seen the Epicure range do tinned artichokes.
Now you didn't say where you are from, but in Galway I have seen them in specialist food shops such as Mc Cambridges and Mortons. Even Joyces in Knocknacarra once.

If you are doing the classic "I'm in Dublin therefore nowhere else exists" :p:pac:, did you try fallon and byrne?

Very good...!! I am laughing away here. OK, firmly back in my box. Yes, I am from Dublin....!!

Thanks for that...I'm en route shortly to Fallon & Byrne on Exchequer St to pick them up..

    Much appreciated thank you,

    A

The recipe looks good. Did F&B have the artichokes and how easy is it to get raw chorizo? I think I've only ever seen it available cooked.

No, I tried Dunnes, Tesco's, F&B, Donnybrook Fair, Supervalue and Superquinn and none had Artichokes. They had them in jars as Antipasti but they come in olive oil are are about E4 a jar. I eventually got them in Nolan's in Clontarf. A girl in Tesco's said that they used to stock them but they're not on their buying list at the moment for some reason.I think it has something to do with the recent changes they made in the Northside shops now that they're competing with the North. Shame really..shows how the multiples decide what we eat...!

The recipe is fantastic. Tip though, add in more stock than it says as the rice tends to soak up a lot and check the dish about every 10 mins to make sure it doesn't dry up. I used a Le Creuset pot for it on the hob and then in the oven slowly. I used 1/2 bottle of white wine also which gave it a delicious flavour and threw in a big handful of freshly chopped parsley and folded it in about ten mins before the end and it was to die for. A bowl of that, nice Chablis and Le Boulangerie french stick, drizzle of olive oil and fresh garlic, 10 mins in the oven and you're on a winner.

As for the Chorizo, most comes raw. I would tend to buy mine in Magill's deli behind the Westbury/Powerscourt Centre or any good cheese/meat shop. Most of the supermarket ones are full of nasty preservatives/colourings. Trick is to peel it and put it on a low heat to let the oils come out of it..great if you get a good one...it also lasts for ages....

Interested to hear how your recipe works out!!

What's the problem with the jar of antipasto artichokes in oil?

    Antipasto artichokes: 280grm @ €3.80

    Tinned: 400grm @ €3.00

Put the word "antipasto" on the label and you nearly double the price...!

I got a jar of artichokes in Aldi recently - sorry can't remember price or what they are preserved in, but might be worth a try.

Ah, Nevin is to TV chefs as Eoin McLove is to Musicians.

Made this recipe tonight. I got the chorizo in Fallon & Byrne, a jar of artichokes in Aldi and the chicken in SQ. It was quite nice and went down well with the gang.

Not too sure about the quantity of rice as we have loads left.

Looks like something I'll be making again.

Off now to finish the wine I opened for the recipe. ;)

Yeah, I've bought them here too. They're in oil. You can sometimes get raw chorizo in Tesco & Superquinn at the deli counter.

TBH, when cooked - there isn't a hell of a lot of difference between the raw & cooked. I think Sol (you can get it in Superquinn & Spar) is a decent chorizo.

Looks like a great recipe though - will defo try it!

I got fresh artichokes in Superquinn walkinstown last month. I was actually looking for tinned hearts so now I know where to get them. Must try Aldi too!!!

Does anyone know where you can buy packets of frozen artichoke hearts? They are well cheap and way nicer than from tins...never seen them in Ireland so far?

Aldi sell jars of Artichoke Hearts. They have them in all their stores but they're very hard to find. They're normally found on shelves above the frozen food cabinets nearest the fresh food. Just keep your eyes open for a tiny row of clear jars.

Sorry to be horribly pedantic but "raw" chorizo is not actually raw. It's partially cured and you can eat it as is, it just doesn't taste very nice.
Ps all chorizo is full of additives, bad e numbers, nitrates, colouring etc. Even the ones from Fallon and Byrne. It's just that they take them out of the packaging there and put them in a fancy bowl. You don't get to read the ingredients, therefore you think the quality of the product is better! The only ones I've found that aren't completely toxic are the gubbeen ones (possibly available in f&b, definitely available in Sheridans)

I've done this recipe several times, its excellent if you have 4 people, very simple and its a very presentable dish when set on the table... I could never find artichokes though, so I just substituted asparagus instead, worked at treat, they didn't come out al dente but they were very tasty as a whole. Making it again this evening, going to make my own garlic toast to accompany it... :)
