Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It can only succeed with support but atleast if we don't right the injustice done to the Irish team with enough numbers we can pressurise FIFA to do something about it.

I ask of you all to sign it and spread it as far and as wide as you can, we need as many signatures as possible for some form of an effect. Atleast a few thousand is needed! So forum signatures, Facebook, bebo. Anything!

    soccer is corrupt :)

    especially in this decade

i`d prefer loosing the way we did than the way they did tbh :)

It can if in sufficient numbers, we won't lose anything trying, we can only stand to gain! Atleast its a place to vent and gauge the anger of football fans around the world.
    Sign and Spread!

(Yes I do know Online petitions have a notoriously high rate of not achieving anything but that is due to people not bothering to sign!)

An official one (not loads and loads with a few thousand each) would get it done. It'd EASILY get nearly million throughout the world.

    Loving the optimism fellas!

If you write to them they will at least know a lot of people are pissed off and it will be on their radar.

Things become official by massive almost viral spreading. There is no official petition as of yet, this should be it!

If we get a million signatures throughout the world(I would easily say more than a million are angry about this) then FIFA will HAVE to respond in some way or form.

Thank this post if you vow to never buy soccer tickets, jerseys or any commercial goods until FIFA and UEFA implement some sort of goal line technology so cheating like this will never happen again.

From a Twitter perspective, hundreds and hundreds of messages are coming in every 30 seconds saying either Thierry Henry or cheat.

Wasn't there some obscure Irish player who got voted Greatest AC Milan player of all time?
Huge campaign by Irish voters won it for him.

This is going back a few years.
And a very offtopic post :o

Sh1t happens sadly, especially in Soccer. We see it every weekend. Sometimes it works for you, sometimes it doesnt.

Really dissappointed with overall result but such is the game.

Sign the petition! We need massive marketing of sorts to achieve a successful petition. Tell your friends on MSN, put it up on facebook, put it in your signature. We cannot let FIFA and France get away with this injustice.

Spread it and we shall succeed.

    Not quite.

Ronnie O'Brien was voted the player most likely to be the best summer signing for Juventus in the summer of 1997 after an Irish email campaign around it.

He was also in line for Time man of the century until Time disqualified all votes for him.

Why? Not all online petitions fail, they only fail because the majority of them are for worthless aims and end up failing. This is something a huge amount of people are angry about, It can succeed it just needs support.

Fifa restructure the draw to favour the big teams.......

    ..... the big team win....

... and you think Fifa will replay the match if some people on the internet ask them?

I suggest disconnecting your internet and rejoining the real world!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,458 ✭✭✭✭gandalf

Fifa are batoning down the hatches already. The comments on their article on the match has suddenly disappeared because they all slated the handball. It wouldn't let me post a comment because it was counting "cheated" as a profanity.

    http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/news/newsid=1136804.html#gallas+breaks+irish+hearts

LOL they have even removed the rating from the article now. Pathetic.

You might get more satisfaction by hitting Gillette's Facebook telling them we won't buy their products in Ireland while they use that cheat in their ads. Hit him in the pocket.

I suggest you ditch your pessimism and join the petition. You have nothing to lose, only to gain.

i dont think the intention is to get a rematch , i think its more to get some sort of acknoladgment that ireland were outdone by a goal that should not have stood and if they'd admit that they surely then have to look into it not happening again, than the patition would be a success! anyways it should be signed even if it has the slighest chance of getting recognised.

p.s. sorry bout the spelling typed in a hurry!

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,784 ✭✭✭KungPao

    Jesus lads.

Ok it may not achieve anything, but just sign it....say how píssed off you are.

It won't change tonights absolutely unfair result, but maybe, just maybe, if enough people let those bástards know what we think of them, they may consider things for the future.

Football should be a fair game, like so many other sports.

The result tonight was a disgrace.....let them know about it.

He is a multi millionaire with a big contract at Barcelona I highly doubt taking the Gillette ad away from him is going to make that much of a difference. Its like you losing a tenner.

I am shocked at how pessimistic some of you are, you automatically give up and just whine, moan and complain. Sign the petition and complain in the comments, atleast there you have even the chance of reaching a massive audience. No point moaning about how injust it was in private. We need support, It needs to be spread, I urge you all to do your best and spread it by any means you can and it needs to be done fast before the fire cools so to speak. We need as many signatures as possible. Boycotting Gilette will not work, Moaning on threads won't help, Signing this petition MIGHT help but only if you bother to support it!

There is power in numbers, Our amazingly committed team did not fail us with their performance tonight, the least we can do is try and right the wrong done to them.

yeah, the fifa website is gonna say "thierry henry cheated to score the goal"

    good man, thats definitely possible

same way theyd have said the very same thing if it was an irish player

what exactly would you expect the sport's governing body to have on their site minutes after the game? crucify the officials without speaking to them is it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,458 ✭✭✭✭gandalf

What would be more effective is to boycott all the sponsors products who are endorsing the World Cup in South Africa and FIFA. We aren't going to get a replay but if a blatant handball like that can cost a country a place in the so called showpiece of the "Fair Play" Fifa then its time to bring in Video Replay and if we can use the power of the mighty Euro to help concentrate peoples minds then so be it.

    this is just LOL

of epic proportions, how can fifa muscle their way out of this

"Five minutes later, France skipper Thierry Henry won the match for the hosts when his angled pass amid a goalmouth scramble was met by the head of Wiliam Gallas. The goal enabled France to qualify and avoid a repeat of their humiliating failure, at the hands of Bulgaria, to qualify for the 1994 FIFA World Cup finals."

    I emailed FIFA

    this

    Dear Sirs

It is a sad state of affairs of modern football when a travesty of a decision to allow the French goal to stand when there was no less than 3 infringements before the ball found the back of the net.

Not to mention this epic report from the FIFA web site.

"Thierry Henry won the match for the hosts when his angled pass amid a goalmouth scramble was met by the head of Wiliam Gallas"

Messrs Henry obviously learnt some invaluable handball skills while at Croke Park, the home of the Gaelic Games, during the first leg.

but FIFA, and Mr.Blatter have got their goal of having a major seed reach SA, so congratulations.

And long may the disaster of modern day football continue.

Anyone who is not interested in supporting the petition can leave this thread, I fully see how doing nothing will achieve something  Doing something no matter how small can achieve great things. I can't see how complaining about petitions is going to achieve ANYTHING. If this petition fails to achieve anything (Which it may if some people continue to act like they are now) then so be it, atleast you tried. It takes 5 seconds to sign the petition and it takes a minute to reply to this thread with a pessimistic comment that achieves nothing.

Seriously, we need to increase the acceleration of this petition as soon as possible. If everyone puts in their full support and tells everyone of the petition we WILL achieve something.
