Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Insurance really gone up this year?

Is it true that the cost of insurance is actually gone up this year, so that even if your situation hasn't changed since last year (same car, no points, no claims, just one yr older), your insurance will still be the same, if not more expensive than last year?

Mine is up next month and was expecting it to be lower than last year, but all quotes I got online are above last years quote.
My renewal letter hasn't arrived yet, but I want to know what the story is so that I can bargain, if possible!

also, does it matter what the sites call your car? when I put in the details, it says my model is an estate, but there are no estates in this range at all. Mine is a hatchback. presume it won't matter when all other details are correct?

Yep, apparently rates are going up because of the amount of claims being put in, which according to the insurance companies I've spoken to, is a common occurrence in a recession. The best thing you can do is ring up the companies as opposed to doing it online, you can haggle your way down, compare different insurers with eachother and hope for the best!

I used to think that but I then heard this...

This should be done as a matter of course. Unfortunately people still fail to do it!

Yup, my quote went up by 30% for no reason which is bloody crazy!!

Needless to say I am shopping around at the moment, have 7 quotes from various companies cheaper than last years quote so I wont be going back to my current insurer, but I will be ringing them to inform them of it.

If they were genuinely interested in my custom they wouldn't have put it up so much in the first place..

A 10% increase on last years I wouldn't have been happy about but I knew it was going up from reading about it in the media so kind of expected it. A bit of haggling and even knocking half that off I would have been happy with, but 30%.. talk about taking the p*ss!!

So one less customer for them next year.. idiots!!
