Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Anyone know if any bus routes are planned for the new bridge? Or shall we wait three years for the department of transport to pick a winner?

How could a bus use this bridge *and* O'Connell St? It'll never happen :)

Ah Markpb.....but you`re forgetting about the secret Dublin Bus tunnel linking Macken St and O Connell St......the real purpose for that concrete blockhouse facing Daniel O Connell`s statue is about to be revealed to a breathless Citizenry :P....It`s a Toll Booth !!!

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

Not a great bridge for a bus route, it has to be said. It does have its uses, for sure, mainly in terms of linking the North Docks to the Merrion Square/Stephen's Green area southbound It doesn't particularly suit bus running in a big way, because it doesn't facilitate much access to the city centre. There is going to be no right turn from Macken St/Cardiff Lane onto Pearse Street.

It should be useful for the Dublin Bus routes for certain things. Any changes to routes after 3 December will entail a competitive tender for the route, under EU Directive 1370/2007 and the Dublin Transport Act 2008. Unfortunately for DB, the bridge won't open until 11 December.

Are SSG and Merrion Sq not in the city centre? Besides, a better thought out bus network would not have every single route going through the city-centre

I used to commute from the southside to the IFSC by bus. Bus would crawl through College Green (thanks to DCC) and I'd get off on OCS and walk along the quays for 15mins.

Maybe N11, fitzwilliam st, merrion square,IFSC, tunnel, airport, swords might be popular. Or else N81, SSG, Merrion Square, IFSC, tunnel, airport, swords.

It would seem that that the Samuel Becket Bridge has either a very wide cycle lane/foot path or a segregated bus lane.

That would be fine if there were easy interchange between buses and between buses and luas. But there basically isn't,, so you really need the bus to go very close to O'Connell Bridge. It's just the most convenient place for an awful lot of people and places.

Also, I challenge you to find a way to get from SSG (northbound) to the Macken St Bridge which is faster than going via O'Connell Bridge with the bus gate!
