    Hi All,

New to the psych board. Need to tackle an assignment on Molecular Genetics - a double edged sword? Taking the angle - could we as humans stop at rectifying diseases such as heart disease or cancer or would we be tempted to create 'perfect people'? Have looked online for info. but keep getting the medical angle as opposed to the psychological. Anybody got ideas on where to start or who to start with? Thanks

Sounds like you're looking for philosophy more than psychology?

It's a very pertinent question and one which will likely be at the very forefront of scientific and cultural thinking over the decades to come. In case you haven't come across the term the area is know as transhumanism. There is a wealth of information online. Here is a page with a few links on papers if you scroll down:
    www.posthumanism.com/

I watched a decent interview with British bioethics professor John Harris on BBCNI's William Crawley Meets last week.

But basically once you start looking under tranhumanism you'll be fine and sites like the one I mentioned, http://humanityplus.org/ , www.extropy.org/ etc. all have lots of info.
