Its the first Christmas in our own house, and the in laws are coming over

I do not want to cook a turkey, i find it a bit bland...

I was thinking about a duck or a goose?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I think it depends on how many you are going to be having over. My mum would order a goose from our butcher and it would feed five with very little in the way of leftovers. You could probably get a bigger one, but I don't think you would feed more than six out of one.

Another year we have wild ducks but we roasted 4 between 7 of us. They were delicious though!

You could also do poussins (1 per person). Or what about a joint of venison?

Goose is a great alternative to turkey,( and the fat from the cooking will make the best roast potatoes ever) but you could also consider venison or wild boar(Downeys in Terenure supply both)

Is it the turkey yourself you're bored with or the way it's always prepared, roasted with stuffing etc? Perhaps a different way of preparing it might inspire you, so it's still traditional but with a twist?

Personally I couldn't do without my turkey at christmas, not just on the day itself (more for the turkey and stuffing sandwiches on the night than the actual dinner tbh) but for being able to make turkey & ham pasta bake, hot turkey, cheese & mayo toasties, turkey in spicy tomato sauce, stock from the carcass etc etc during the next few days.

I use the word etc too much...
