Just paid deposit, now can't move in.

    Hi,
    I just paid a deposit to rent a house through a letting agent and I was due to move in in two weeks time. I just got some news that means that I won't be able to take the house as I need to move elsewhere. Where do I stand as regards getting my deposit back. I haven't signed a lease yet but I did lodge the deposit.

    Write to them and tell them you aren't able to procede.

    did you get a receipt? Does it says its a security deposit or a booking deposit. If the latter, it may be difficult getting all the money back.
