Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Has any one heard of a super car, ie Ferrari, being converted into a commercial vehicle?

Not a supercar but I know a guy who had a Supra commercial, the rear windows were blacked out.

    That was quick.

Is there any reason to WHY it couldn't be done?

If you can afford a Ferrari you can afford to tax it aswell.

I've seen a Porsche 928 turned into a pick up truck?

Saw a 2005 Nissan 350Z commerical for sale recently.

Kinda makes sense with the road tax and more so if you import it because of the lower VRT

Spot on. This was brought up in a previous pub discussion.

So what you're saying is that boards.ie motors forum users know more than Google?

IMO, this would make an excellant commercial conversion:

Don't argue with a moderator on thread.

You can convert any car to a commerical, really.

    You'll have to:
remove the rear seats and seat belts
plug the holes with a metal putty
disconnect the rear windows (can be reconnected after work is sorted)

Now, I couldn't find a rule for this, but I know there is a requirement for the loading area size compared to the whole size of the car somewhere. Best to ask Revenue for the rules to register a car as commercial.

As said before in this thread, a Toyota Supra can be converted to import as commercial, I'd say a few other cars no problems either. A 2 seater is most likely a no go.

Z coupe would be a perfect yoke as a commercial. Pretty much same sixe as any other car-van. Wonder if anyone has done it.

I believe 40% of the wheelbase has to be commercial space, probably to stop 2 seaters saying they are commercials...

Sounds reasonable enough. In Denmark it's minimum 50% of the passenger cabin's length (if it's a car/mpv you're converting). Haven't tried to do a conversion here yet, but often toyed with it.

Isn't there a Merc Vito in the midlands with Lamborghini Diablo running gear?

Ferrari did a 250 GTO "breadvan" in the 60s:D

    How about a 700hp V12?

Not a supercar, but a supersuv

That's just amazing. Apart from the engine, the X5 is pretty much standard and it achieves a similar Ring time to the likes of a Ferrari 599, a Lambo Murcielago and a Bugatti Veyron? Incredible stuff.

I've DOE'ed 2 of these and one was lifted by the customs who said that the load carrying space was too small(the boot floor is very high to allow space for the differential) the owner had to pay the back tax plus pound fees but escaped VRT fines as the car had been registered before in the country and VRT paid. Customs don't like people trying to take the piss with commercial conversions and will try everything to make sure the vehicle meets requirements for commercialising

I think your probably right,,, too many questions would put me off. If it could be done I would convert an Old S class Merc and enjoy my big engine with f all road tax.

Aren't those Ferrari estates owned by the Sultan of Brunei. That country was ordering loads of supercars about 20 years ago, most of them with specialised coachwork. They also received some Bentley SUVs.

Not a supercar, but a Vineyard ran this commercial....

and this must be twice the price of a Zeppelin!

Some of these might be fakes, and some aren't supercars either but there's a lot of shooting brakes around:

    Porsche 928

    Aston Martin V8 Vantage

    Ford Mustang (fake I think)

    Ferrari Daytona

It's a Ferrari 456 GT Venice. There were a handful of them specially made for the Sultan of Brunei in the mid-90's. Chances are if you can afford one, you can afford the tax too :P

There was a Lotus Elise (i know its not a supercar) discussed here a few weeks ago that it legally taxed as a commercial due to having only 2 seats, a rear bench and blacked out windows

Many like this are driven like supercars.

    Does it qualify?

Next thing you'd come up with is a Ford Transit ST.

No, they do not qualify as supercar, as supercars not only are about engine. It's about engine, handling and a lot different other things ..... and then the Ford Transit and Transit Connect aren't precisely sexy.

I'd love to have a Clear CT/4, and yes it's a damn animal with 522 bhp Porsche Ruf 993 engine in a Volkswagen Caravelle T4, but it's not a supercar. It's a supervan, at best :) ... I'd say it's just a damn fast van, with nice stylings.

The Ford Transit Connect is plain ugly though.
