Hey all, just wondering am I able to switch back from Vodafone at Home to Eircom without any penalties? Vodafone have been beyond terrible and I just want a steady connection (which I had with Eircom).

I got Vodafone at Home 5 weeks ago, although Eircom said it will take 3 weeks for me the line change again, so is there any stopgap solution? I wouldnt be able to have no internet for 3 weeks.

    Any suggestions always appreciated!

What problems are you having with Vodafone?

Depending on the issue, switching back to Eircom might not fix them.

Are Smart, Magnet or UPC an option in you area?

The DSL sync disconnects intermittently throughout the day, very frustrating when playing a game online or downloading a file.

Ping is between 80-100ms where as Eircom's was 30-40ms.

Neither Smart, Magnet or UPC are an option unfortunately :( (in Castlebar)

Loosing DSL sync would be down to the phone line, internal wiring, the modem or an exchange problem. Changing provider won't fix this.

Perhaps, it might be down to one of those. I'm just annoyed because I never had a problem with Eircom whilst I was with them, then I switch over to Vodafone and it nothing but problems.

EDIT: Maybe my line cant handle 7mb? Here are the stats:

    Line State Up
    Modulation DMT
    Data Path Interleave

    Downstream Upstream
Max Allowed Speed (kbps) 7168 384
    SN Margin (dB) 14.50 15.00
    Line Attenuation (dB) 10.00 8.00
    CRC Errors 0 2

Vodafone simply resell Eircom's broadband and put their name on it, so the issue must be down to Eircom. The only thing I can think of is that it could be a result of Eircom upgrading your line from 3mb to 7mb, though your line stats look perfect and I am jealous.

Okay, I lie. There is one other thing that may have changed: your modem. Try using your original Eircom modem, probably a Netopia, and changing the username and password on it to match your Vodafone username and password. If the problem is resolved, you've got a faulty modem.
