    Met Eireann forecast for today....

Very windy or stormy this morning with southwest winds gusting 100 to 120 km/hr in exposed places. The winds will ease somewhat in the late morning or early afternoon. Heavy showers or longer spells of rain also, with a risk of thunder.

The high winds will start to ease this afternoon but the atmosphere will still be unstable so there is a good chance of thunderstorms and severe showers. Estofex even have a Level 1 threat over Ireland today because of the risk of a few rare tornados.

Gust of 94.4kmph at Dublin Airpot. I've heard that some flights have been diverted due to the winds.

Woke up at 5:30 to lashing rain and a very strong wind. It has eased a good bit since.

Some large showers out there already, I've heard there's been more flooding in Galway and todays rain isn't going to help at all.

A total of 11.4mm from those showers overnight and this morning which brings the total recorded rainfall here for this month up to an incredible 284.9mm

Looks like Co. Galway and Co. Clare may officially be classed as disaster areas:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2009/1125/breaking7.htm

"the west coast faced further storm force 10 winds and up to 30mm of rain last night and there were calls from local councillors for south and east Galway to be declared an “emergency disaster zone”.

Just heard on the radio that there are further problems with the water on the Shannon. Water levels at Lough Rea half a metre higher than ever before. ESB to start discharging water from Parteen weir which will lead to additional flooding in East Clare and Limerick.
