Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

.. who travelled to white hart lane yesterday.

    nice touch i think
The club have announced that the players of Wigan Athletic have decided to personally refund every Latics fan who bought a ticket from the DW Stadium ticket office for the match against Tottenham Hotspur yesterday.

Latics had a sizeable following at White Hart Lane and skipper Mario Melchiot, speaking on behalf of all the players, said today: "We feel that as a group of players we badly let down our supporters yesterday, and this is a gesture we HAVE TO make and pay them back for their tremendous loyalty.

"There is not a lot else to say, just that as a group of professionals we were embarrassed by the way we performed, we feel it was below our standards and this is something we feel we owe to the fans.

"Now we have to draw a line under the game, focus completely on training this week and bounce back on Saturday.

"We are professionals, we will take it on the chin and move on but it's important that we do not take our supporters for granted."

A fitting gesture; nice to see them basically apologising for being terrible. I wonder how the idea came up and went down?

    Just coming to post same

Fair play, some teams will hope this sort of thing doesn't catch on though.

    Nice one.

Wigan will be fine this season imo. So unpredictable though.

Ya well done - Wigan are nowhere near that bad a side and just ran into Spurs in one of those freaky days.

Fair play to players a nice touch.

To be fair, most of spurs goals were brillant, apart from 2 that was bad defending, Lennon and Defoe were on fire and it could have been more.

1-0 at half time and all, crazy game :pac:

Saw it done before in Germany after FC Köln went to Bremen and lost 6-0. One of the players just outright refused to pay his share of the refund. He left the club that summer.

Tbh after that horror show they should give each fan 50 pounds as well as the ticket refund for travelling expenses.

That's a very nice gesture. Good to see some clubs still care about their fans.

Good gesture and the fans will appreciate that.
Wigan are a work in progress and have a lot of ability under Martinez.
    They just need time.

Fair play to all the players paying the fans back, shows they dont take the support for granted.

Being Wigan, and away from home, it's probably only about 160 quid.

Regardless of how the players felt initially, they'll see the graitiude reflected through the public and media and realise it's a good gesture.

I'd say the wigan faithful will really appreciate it and good move for Martinez too!

    fair play!

Seeing as Scharner handled the ball for their only goal the only decent thing to do would be a replay...

Well done to the Wigan players. Not many professional footballers would do that! Nice gesture!

I bet they wouldn't be doing it if they were playing at home.

with the attendances they get, wouldn't have made too much of a difference.

15 grand is what they'll have to pay out, according to bbc sport

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭Mad_Max

Are they covering their travel expenses in this?

Might have cost people more to travel than the ticket itself.

The 15k the beeb reported is the maximum payout. That's if all 565 tickets allocated were sold to adults. I suspect it's a decent chunk less than 15k.

Noel Edmund should pay it all, he had a shocker, it's hard to believe 15k is less than a week's wages for him, he wouldn't make the Skyvalley Rovers 2nd team after that performance.

the banker was good to him the day he was offered that deal.
