I really hate this nonsense. If you're going to quote me, quote me. Otherwise, make your point in your own post without changing what I say
    And it's happening more and more, usually it's a;

    "fyp" followed by .

    Case in point: http://www.boards.ie//vbulletin/showpost.php?p=63171009&postcount=461

I think it should warrant an infraction.

    FYP

    I'm sorry, couldn't help it ;)

I agree, can't stand it myself. Don't think it's infraction bad though.

If it is used in an abusive manner then it should warrant mod action, but 99% of the time it is not. There is no hard/fast rule that can be applied to it imo.

I think we should be allowed to inform anyone that uses 'FYP' that they're a loathsome cυnt, without fear of banning.

I use it now and again. It can be funny in the right circumstances.

Making it an infraction offence is ridiculous.

Well...maybe. I suppose I'll just keep calling them morons (in my head).

Good plan. You could even index your own categories of mental infraction to hand out to offenders.

"Fyp" can be hilarious - lighten up OP.

I hate it. Hate it hate it hate it.

But I also hate people who do it in real life.

Like, 'Can you give me a sec, I'm concentrating ...'

'WHA? WHATCHA SAY, YOU'RE CONSTIPATED? I THOUGHT YOU SAID CONSTIPATED. AHAHAHA, GIVE YOU A SEC, YOU'RE CONSTIPATED, WHA? HAHAHA'

    **** off.

Not infractable, alas. However, we shall struggle on and add people who do it to our internal 'Muppet list' in our heads.

Do you feel this strongly against it when it is clearly banter, and received as such?

Yes, I think taking something someone has said and changing it around to try make it look like they said something else, something stupid usually, for your own amusement is the lowest form of wit.

I don't think it is, or ever should be, or could be, or will be an infractable, or even warnable offence ever.

As long as it is informed that your post has been tinkered with, rather than a pure misquote, I don't see much of a problem.

Alright, alright, I beg foregiveness; the infraction bit was a touch too far.

It's grand when it's funny but when you make a point, and someone reverses it with a simple "FYP" and a smiley, with no counter argument, you might as well post a picture of a puppy.

<waits for picture of puppy to be posted>

Just as well then you and I don't spend a lot of time together in real life,
esp as I hear you give a mean dead arm...

    Get thee to a punnery...

It depends on the forum, can't see tht being allowed in pi/politics/humanities tbh, in more light hearted forums such as ah or bgrh I don't think it's out of place.

It happens a lot in After hours and it's usually pretty funny.
I haven't seen or heard anyone complaining about it.

I suppose it depends on the forum, the post and the poster who FYP.

In After Hours for instance, the person will know that the other user will not take offence, it's a bit of banter and the post is usually thanked by the user on the recieving end.

It's not very nice if it's used to offend or deliberately annoy another poster.

But should that be the case I'm sure once it's reported it will be dealt with appropriately.
Either deleted or a PM sent asking for them to tone it down a bit.

I agree. It is quite irritating.

Ooh, look at how funny I am. I changed one word in your post in order to make a really ****ing lame pun.

Where is the banter in three letters and the replacememnt of one word?
It's so ****ing lazy that the writers of Friends would be embarassed to put their names to it.

It has been used in Politics and not punished at least once. It was however, very very very deserved. Very.

I've only ever seen it done either in a good-natured way, or in a sarcastic way when the person completely deserves it.

In terms of it being lazy, lacking in wit, immature etc: surely it depends on what is changed and how it's changed?
