I had one in my old car and will probably get one in my new car too. I was pretty lazy about it - bought it from cartft.com and just wired the audio through an amp. The hard drive lasted a lot longer than I though it would considering the amount of vibration it got. 4+ years and it was still going strong. It had a motorised folding touchsceen, so when it wasn't in use it just looked like a cheap and nasty stereo.

I was thinking of this in the new car but have to figure out how to do it without losing my steering wheel controls.....

Not a bad unit man, i'd personally for the seperate flipout and pc meself.
jus incase anyone broke into the car, well easy to pull the din out then everythings gone.
Rather than have the pc tooked away behind the dash or in the boot etc and jus the 100 euro flip din.

For the steering wheel controls i suggest getting something like this, http://www.reslers.de/IBUS/

It connects into your car loom to gain access to steering wheel control buttons, oem button etc.

Whatever car your driving i'm sure you can get one.

That could be the job, ta. I'd say I'd stick with that unit and 1 din though. Partly through laziness and partly for astetics. It'd make the install easier to just have to route wires from the pc to the pre-amp and I wouldn't have to hide the pc anywhere. I'd screw it into the holder and probably McGyver something else to lock it in place too. Having everything in 1 unit appeals to me as well - u can also throw a laptop drive into the unit for more storage.
