Three Finger Bass Playing.

I've been playing a bit of bass and working on getting a steady quarter/sixteenth note pulse going as accurately as possible.

I've been using three fingers for this and if you imagine that:

Thumb = T
Index = I
Middle = M
Ring = R
Pinky = P

I've been playing

Seems to work quite well.

Anyone else come across this?
Does the technique have a name?

Trying it out some more today.

Getting good, doing 8th notes at 120 bpm.

Haven't played bass in a while though, my fingers are fúcking killing me.

God help me, I thought about joining a covers band to get more bass practise.

I try do it sometimes but it doesn't always suit. I generally use two fingers or sometimes am really lazy and use one. :P

Steve Harris is another one to watch for three finger right hand technique. It works very well for galloping.

Same here, and I find them "quite adequate".

Billy Sheehan does it extremely well. I think he even has some lessons on youtube.
