Hi there. I'm a meteor customer and recently have been contemplating trying their mobile broadband. but then i thought, surely my phone, nokia n95 8gb could operate as a modem to be connected to my laptop. anyone using this set up?

ive had this kind of setup with several nokia phones with meteor.
just make sure you have a data bundle !
and not really worth while unless your in 3g coverage.

just connect it up (using a cable connection) to the PC nokia suite.
then hit the connect to the internet button.

hopefully you dont have any problems. if you do some back

How about turning you N95 into a wifi hotspot - http://www.joikushop.com/.
The free app works for http only, with full version supporting vpn etc.

    Which would be faster ?

JoikuSoft or using a cable and nokia suite (ovisuite)

Not sure to be honest but i think the real bottleneck is going to be your mobile broadband connection and not the connection between the phone and pc.

Cable connection works faster than bluetooth.

Cable connection works faster than bluetooth.

This doesn't use bluetooth (I don't think it does anyway)

Joiku doesnt, but you can still use bluetooth if you have a bluetooth built in yout laptop, or use a bluetooth usb stick

the cable will be alot faster than bluetooth... and if i remember correctly you cant even connect up to the internet while connected using bluetooth (found out the hard way)

Ok so just to clarify what i asked "Which would be faster ? " ignoring network speed would which would be faster technically.

    JoikuSoft using wifi

    or

nokia suite (ovisuite) using a cable

    Thanks

USB has a data transfer of 480Mbps
the best wifi has a data trasfer rate of about 54Mbps

3G has a data transfer rate of up to 14 Mbits (so says wikipedia)... that that would be right under the 3G mast and you wouldnt be able to get full speed.

so it doesnt matter if you use wifi or data cable from your phone as the bottleneck will be at your internet connecftion from your phone to the internet.

Batterywise it would be better to use the cable.
