Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    th_b_12.png vs. b_26446.png

    Group B
    25th Nov 2009
    KO 19:45
    Channels: ITV, RTE2

So, qualification assured but just a little bit more work to do to assure top spot. Given what we've heard from the press conference, I think the team will be something along the lines of:

    PIG/Foster

    Rafael
    Brown---Vidic
    Evra

    Park
    Gibson----Anderson/Scholes--Obertan/Nani----

    Kiko/Wellbeck
    Owen/Wellbeck

The back 4 pretty much picks itself with injuries. We know that Rafael, Park and Gibson are starters. The question marks I'd have on the above are Nani starting in place of Obertan (don't want it to happen, but it would be a bad sign for Nani if he didn't start this game imo) and up front - I think it will be 2 of Wellbeck, Kiko and Owen. I might have predicted Wellbeck on the right wing, but not after confirmation of Park starting. I've heard Berbatov should be alright to make his comeback, but remains to be seen if it's from the start or off the bench.

    Prediction: 3-0

Rooney is starting, the main man confirmed it yesterday.

did he? Don;t remember seeing that. Just read Raf, Gibson, Park and Obertan were starters, and that at least one from Kiko and Welbeck will start, maybe both.

Really? I missed that one somehow. Tough call so as to who'll partner him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,732 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

Ye sure, could have sworn I heard him say he would be true to the fans and take the night seriously and start Rooney???

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,422 ✭✭✭Fenix

I'd be very surprised if Rooney started.

Would think it'll be Owen and (probably) Kiko. Always like these sort of games, good chance to see the fringe players trying to push themselves.

The jury is still out on Obertan for me, will defidefinitely be keeping an eye on him and hopefully Fergie ill give him a start, although NOT starting Nani would surely be a big clue as to how SAF is rating him at the moment.

ssn were reporting Rooney will start tonight

Well if he does play I think we will see a better performance than what he produced at the weekend.

Looking forward to seeing a good few players tonight. Be nice to get a win and build some momentum

Anyone else see the press conference yesterday??

Swear to God I thought I heard Fergie say Rooney would definately start because he didn't want to make a mockery of the tie.

Or am I going completely off my fooking head??

Didn't see it, but Sky didn't mention it in their preview:
As part of his tinkering, Ferguson has already confirmed that Irish youngster Darron Gibson will start in midfield.

The 22-year-old is on the fringes of the first team at the moment and Ferguson is obviously keen for him to progress.

Rio Ferdinand, Jonny Evans and John O'Shea are all sidelined - so Wes Brown should be expected to start alongside Nemanja Vidic in central defence.

The likes of Danny Welbeck, Federico Macheda and Gabriel Obertan will all be hoping to be involved from the start - but they all may have to make do with starting from the bench.

    http://www.skysports.com/football/match_preview/0,19764,11065_3190149,00.html

Then again they didn't mention that Park and Rafael were definite starters either.

Been looking around a few sites Boggles and havent found any direct quote from SAF but the BBC gives this as a squad:

Man Utd (from): Foster, Kuszczak, Rafael, Brown, Vidic, Evra, Anderson, Fletcher, Valencia, Giggs, Scholes, Carrick, Park, Gibson, Obertan, Nani, Rooney, Owen, Berbatov, Welbeck, Macheda.

aye it was either Boggles breaks the internet or what we've evidenced today!

Looking forward to seeing more of Obertan tonight. Hope he gets as much of the full 90 as possible.

LOL.....he does need a game like this though to try and nick one and get back in the scoring groove. I would personally prefer to see Kiko partnered with Welbeck to see if they can cut it at this level. He tried it last season in the FA Cup semi against Everton and although they done ok, not as well as I hoped and hoepfully they can step up to the plate this season. Maybe partner Macheda with Owen and drop Welbeck back to midfield.

Besides I have a few quid on them both scoring tonight anyway, so obviosly want them playing. :D

Could just as easily. I just thought Nev as the more experienced pro would be asked to move and let the young lad play his natural position.

    Obertan----Ando
    Gibson----Park

    Wellbeck

My guess. Would be surprised if it wasn't.

We might need a point tonight. think we are 3 ahead of the germans and the last game is against them. If they beat us in a couple of weeks they may finish ahead on head to head record. draw would tonight would fix that though as long as it stays the same in russia.

the list of second placed teams after tonight could be interesting as to the outcome of the match vs Stuttgart

    Cracker by besiktas.
Edit: Defelction off Rafa. Should have been out to him quicker, Foster could've reacted better as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,369 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

foster was very slow to that.

    i wouldn't worry though.

    you'll tank them.

nice goal.. think foster could of done a bit better tbh. although it did take a bit of a deflection so that could of caught him..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,247 ✭✭✭ROCKMAN

    DAM

was about to blame foster , but little deflection really done him.

Good test now for this young team/players

    Come on
