For me it's putting up my mam's two Christmas trees, the tree in the office and then my own of course!

It's making a barrel load of sausage stuffing and eating most of it, opening the pressies with the family on Christmas morning, listening to Christmas songs in the car on the way to and from work and watching waaay too many movies.

And there's also the traditional drinking 5 gallons of Cidona and eating my weight in chocolate coins!

Few days off work, just lazing around.

Looking forward to the stuffing on Christmas day - best part of the meal in my opinion.

Having a break from college. it's definitely needed.

Also, putting up the tree, going Christmas shopping in Cork the weekend after next (squeee!), and the general feeling of cheer that seems to descend upon people at Christmas.

For the first time in my life, I am looking forward to having Christmas behind me. I can't wait for it to be over.

I didn't realise how true this was until I read this thread.

For me it is the sparkly, shiney, happy decorations, different ones remind me of different christmasses and of being really little.
My gorgeous christmass scented Yankee candles. Musical Snowglobes.
People being happy out, and having the opportunity to get something nice to treat my loved ones.
Christmas songs, and the variety acts. Selection boxes.
Dancing with friends I havent seen since forever. Mulled wine and christmas pudding.
    Visiting santie with my friend.
Watching kids films with my family. Pulling off savage family dinners.
Chocolate. Callers. Damien Dempsey in Whelans.
Frosty Christmas morning walks when the rest of the world is asleep.
The opportunity to write off another year and start again with a fresh outlook.

    Not having college.

I know this sounds absurd but I'm looking forward to going back to my other job. The hotel I work in closes for the winter so I'll be going back to the bar/restaurant I go back to when there is work nowhere else. Granted I'll be sick of it after 2 days.

I'm looking forward to gettin the choir ready for Christmas Mass... the traditional (since we were babies) gathering in my neighbours house for drinks, finger food and poker (used to be board games when we were small.

I'm also looking forward to the post-Christmas Day Mass 'party' (before the dinner) in my friends house, it's ALWAYS great... and funny when the drunk husbands are gettin phonecalls at 3pm to say the dinner is ready!!!

Oh oh, and i'm looking forward to eating my weight in Ferrero Rocher... my one and only downfall when it comes to chocolate, i can't say no!

Having the lights up cheers me to no end. Also the tins of roses I go through. But I'm looking forward to the poker the most. The whole family plays and it always ends up in bickering. But its such fun.

I really just love the whole build up to Christmas, most people are in better form and there's a great atmosphere when all the decorations are up in town.
I can't wait to have time off college, to catch up with friends I haven't seen much in the last while.

I'm looking forward to the peace that settles on me on Christmas eve after all the frantic rush. I look forward to gazing at the winter sky, hopefully a little snow.If not then the twinkling stars against a velvet black sky. I can reflect in quiet. the years events and renew my faith. I need that feeling of loness -always someone crowding in, but Christmas eve is mine. Christmas Day I look forward to family and friends, good chats and memories of past Christmas. Happiness and cheer. I love Christmas, it's everything good.

The feel of being back at home in my parents house -I haven't been home in six months

Fighting with Catching up with my brother, who I also haven't seen for six months and am missing the rows banter we have

The freedom that comes with not having to worry about exams, assignments and lectures

Long walks in the forest near our house

Big snoozes in my childhood bedroom

Lying by a big open fire, Bailey's coffee in hand

Spending time with my uncle who's been in and out of hospital for the past three years

Seeing my boyfriend and my family open the presents I got them on Christmas morning

    Mam's gravy

Laughing at my boyfriend compete with my 11 year old cousin when we go ice-skating

Laughing at myself when I fall over for the umpteenth time when we go ice-skating

Having a major Ladies Night with all the girlies I only ever see when I'm home

Being able to see millions of stars every night that I can never see when living in the city

Seeing the face on my Dad whenever he catches myself and the boyf havin a quick hug :o

  • Registered Users Posts: 644 ✭✭✭Mackleton

    Thought of some more:

Looking at Dad's proud face as he marvels at the enormous fire he was able to fit in a normal sized fireplace.

Popping the Xmas morning champers out the back door and having the dog run away with and bury the cork.

Turkey sandwiches at about 10pm when we are all lounging on the sofa with a big mugga tae!

Christmas night new pyjamas (always get pjs at xmas)

    Pulling crackers during dinner

Between course walks to rebuild the appetite

Decorating the tree and having the dog attack the tinsel

    Stephens Day repetition!

    Playing with my wife. ;)
    Sleeping in my own bed.
Catching up with friends & family that I don't see often enough.
A pint of Guinness by a roaring fire.
    My Mammy's spiced beef.

I bought a bottle of Pimm's in duty free the other day. I am going to drink the whole thing myself, starting on Christmas Eve so I can spend Christmas nicely toasted

(not really looking forward to Christmas this year but as that is not a happy thing I won't comment any further! :))
