I'm going to rent my house and travel for a year, I'm registering with an Agency and would have to declare any income but how do they know if you have actually been living abroad?

Secret camera's at the airport! Only joking. The only way Revenue will know you've been abroad will be based on the information passed to them by you.

If you were to get a letter from relatives say, saying you were staying with them and paying rent, would that be enough?

    Hi Rebelgirrl

The agency is obliged to account for the tax that is due on the rent that they are collecting on behalf of non resident landlords and pay it over to revenue. So effectively they will tell them.

    kind Regards

p.s.There may also be secret cameras that follow you onto the plane :D

What if you just told them you were still here?

What if you just told them you were still here?

Then you would be lieing to them?

Why would you want to do that?

The individuals renting your house may also want to claim a Rent Credit for themselves in respect of the rent they are paying.

As part of the application they will have to provide the property address, your name, amount of rent etc..

    : )
