Is this just a quaint tradition, or why bother listing a club name against a player's name.

The days of players like O'Gara, O'Callaghan & Wallace having AIL medals to show alongside their international honours are coming to an end, so why bother listing the club name any more ?

Even though I should know better, I assume Sean O'Brien and Mike Ross have never togged out for Clontarf ?

Why did Rocky Elsom wear Randwick socks for the Barbarians games this summer? Why did D'Arcy wear his school socks?

Tradition reigns supreme in rugby. :pac:

Sean O'Brien has and also coaches in the club. Mike Ross never has as he's been required by Leinster so far. However if you look at the Munster clubs, there seems in the past to be a lot more cooperation between province and club, in fact the likes of Mick O'Driscoll and Tony Buckley have played a fair few AIL games in the last 2 seasons.
I see your point but it can be seen in many cases as recognition of the club in bringing the player through.
