Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi all,

I am having trouble with a Dell Inspiron 545 and Eircom broadband. The problem is that the broadband is dropping intermitently and Eircom are saying that Dell's come with a built in firewall that causes this problem.

    Is this the case?

    Thanks

Windows comes with a firewall which occassionally causes problems. I've only seen problems where when it's enabled it prevents any internet access, not intermittant in your case.

You can try turn it off and see if it helps, go to the Control Panel and you should see Windows Firewall, open that up and there is an option to disable. This is for XP, i think other flavour of windows from XP on are the same.

But....if this firewall is your only protection against threats, you should get some AV software on your machine.

Another thing, if you notice the connection is dropped, take a note of which lights are on/flashing/off on your modem. Compare to when there is no problems.
