Rumors are bouncing aroumd that Pat Mcdonagh has pumped a lot of his own money into GU this year.

If what I heard from two players they offered contracts to is true, Galway have a LOT of money.

Why are you assuming he's expensive? He's just a former youth team player?

Who's played in the World Cup.
He played in the U-20 World Cup (making a single appearance as a 90th minute substitute, according to his Wiki entry) - that doesn't count for a whole lot. You might remember that Trevor Molloy, Alan Kirby, Dessie Baker, Glen Crowe, Neale Fenn, Aiden Lynch, Tommy Morgan and Colin Hawkins were all members of the Ireland squad that finished third at the World Youth Championships in 1997, yet most ended up playing in the LOI shortly afterward, if they were not already.

Looks like Sporting Fingal are getting new investors, NAMA.

    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/frontpage/2010/0218/1224264715434.html
ANGLO IRISH Bank will transfer close to €10 billion in loans into the National Asset Management Agency (Nama), accounting for the largest amount owed by the top 10 developers moving to the agency in the coming weeks.

The Irish Times has established the identities of the top borrowers being moved in the first wave of transfers to the State agency.

They are developers Liam Carroll; Bernard McNamara; Sean Mulryan of Ballymore; financier Derek Quinlan; Paddy McKillen, owner of the Jervis Street Shopping Centre; Treasury Holdings, which is owned by Johnny Ronan and Richard Barrett; Cork developer Michael O’Flynn; Joe O’Reilly, the developer behind the Dundrum Shopping Centre in Dublin; Dublin builder Gerry Gannon, co-owner of the K Club golf resort in Co Kildare; and Galway businessman Gerry Barrett, owner of Ashford Castle in Co Mayo and G Hotel in Galway.

Mark Doninger signs for Sligo Rovers
Feb 20 2010 by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle

GEORDIE boy Mark Doninger could end up playing in next season’s Europa League after signing for Eircom League Sligo Rovers.

With Emerald Isle big boys Cork City on the brink of folding, Sligo would take their place in European competition next season.

Midfield man Doninger has had a hectic schedule since leaving Newcastle United last summer.

After being offered the chance to play in Singapore, he returned to Croft Park to play for Blyth Spartans in the Blue Square North.

Yet despite interest from Burton Albion in League Two, Doninger has signed a one-year contract with Sligo.

The youngster, originally signed by Sir Bobby Robson at Newcastle, said from Ireland today: “I’m delighted to have agreed a deal with Sligo and think this is a good opportunity for me.

“It’s the chance to play full-time in a league that attracts some big crowds.

“Our season starts in March and we’ve got Shamrock Rovers in the first game.

“Obviously the Irish League is massive over here and the games are played out on TV. There’s a chance we could even be in Europe too if Cork go bust.

    “It’s a summer league and it’s a challenge I’m looking forward to.”

Doninger ended last season as United’s top scorer in the reserves with 12 goals but was unable to secure a contract under Chris Hughton.

Meanwhile, United are set to decide whether to loan out Doninger’s former team-mates Ryan Donaldson and Jonny Godsmark before the loan window closes for business next month.

Donaldson has been on the fringes of the first team of late and skippered the second string to a 2-0 victory on Monday night against Leeds United.

Godsmark’s contract expires at the end of the season and could seek a loan move elsewhere with a view to a permanent transfer.

Defender Darren Lough and striker Frank Danquah are also out of contract in the summer.

TV matches? Big Crowds? Massive league? Irish League? Sligo in Europe? Poor lad'll walk home if he has to, to get away from it all!

surely he'll do a good job for Athlone.

Also just to add, Brian McCarthy is back with Athlone this season fresh from his trial with Athletico Madrid. Good signing for us.

Richie Baker and Ger Rowe played for Drogheda against Athlonee yesterday. Looks like we've kept almost all of our squad except Gaynor and Kenna. A lot of people will be dissapointed that they left so quickly especially when the rest of the squad were happy to stay.

If he does sign it better be on an appearance basis, because he WILL spend most of the year injured. Think we are better off wothout him tbh.

    Micheal Clarke (Drogs)

Poor enough player. Short, slight and his attitude was extremely bad from what I heard. Played 1 game for us last year (first match in derry) and never played again.

We've signed John Flood apparently, even after he scored 2 for Dundalk against us on Thurs...!

Haven't seen this confirmed but I wouldn't be too concerned about it. Has only scored once over the past few season. Not sure what he'd offer Dundalk. Well look at the bright side fh041205, he can't be any worse than Martin or Duffy! :D

Going to be tough all round, we all get to play Bray, UCD and Fingal 4 times, getting new fans and holding on to them is going to be some challenge for everyone.
