Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Main Employment Vs. Other Employment

Sorry if this is a really nooby question but I've just set myself up with the revenue online service and logged in.

I've had a look at my profile and according to it, my current employer (who I've worked for since 2003) is set as Other Employment. I did a couple of days work for my college back in 2002 and that college is set as my Main Employment.

Does this affect my tax somehow? (I can change things on this online system like address and phone number but there is no option for changing who one's Main Employer is.)

    Thanks!

You might not have been getting the full value of your tax credits. Have you been making returns over the years?

No, I thought tax returns were just for self-employed people or business owners :o

Edit: I suppose my best port of call would be to fill out a tax return form for this year and as many preceding years that I can.

To be honest, the best thing to do is ring Revenue, and go through it with them on the phone. This can be fixed pretty much instantly.

I rang them yesterday morning and the lady I was speaking to changed my profile so that my current employment is now set as my main employment.

I asked her if it would've affected my tax over the years and she didn't think that it would. So hopefully that's all sorted now.
