Merkur slant is sold to the above poster. Shave Craft 101 is still available. The head is a dual sided design, safety bar on one side and an open comb on the other. In great shape just not for me. Sale/ trade

accap1f8, Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with the 42c. Using a DE razor is not the same as using modern cartridge. There is a learning curve. Pressure and angle are the key. If you're bleeding then you're using way too much pressure and if you're not keeping the constant correct angle it will be rough and you won't get a good shave. Try it again this time use absolutely no pressure and lock your wrist to maintain a constant angle. Also it's important to prep your beard (hot shower before) and shave with the grain and not go against until you get the hang and feel of the razor. Have a look at this video it might help explain it,

Thanks. That's a good video. I'd say I got the angle all wrong with way too much pressure. Not mad about trying it again though.

Give it a try man. Give it several. It's the best damn shave you'll ever have and it becomes a ritual

Ditto all the above. I'm actually trying to offload some razors as I have too much hardware. Merkur make great stuff. The shavecraft is no longer available. Thanks for the interest.

    Hi there.

Is the Merkur 42 still available? I'd definitely take it off your hands for the €22 if you can post it down to Limerick.

    Thanks
    James

Just bought the 42C from VoteforPedro. I'd say stick with it man, two weeks ago I was slicing the neck of myself also but I'm getting better at it and after shaving tonight I have very little irritation. For what it's worth I didn't find the astra blades great at all, have got much better results with the Wilkinson sword blades you can get in any Boots.

Cheers Andy, you might throw in a few blades as well if you have any laying around. How do you find the Merkur compared to the EJ DE89?

    Hi lizzyman,
I have these few blades to send with the razor if that's ok,

    Blades_zpst777kkpf.jpg

As for the EJ DE89 - I think it's a nice enough razor, it's a very easy going razor and also very mild, I just found it a little boring to use. I though the Merkur was a little better quality and it just felt better to me

Blades look great, thanks. Definitely interested in trying the BICS as I've heard they're quite forgiving.

There is 17 blades in with the razor, I'll send as soon as the Post Office re-opens.
I mainly use Feathers, Pol Silver Super Iridium, Personna Platinum Chrome myself, I got the Russian blades a while back as others on here did and I'm finding them very good, especially for the money.

Cheers Vote4Pedro, the razor arrived safely today and it looks great! Didn't realise it was an open comb so I might have to put the blood bank on speed dial :)
