What happened to LUGCon? As a founder of LUGCon, I'm curious.

Unfortunately no one remains in UL that remembers LUGCon (only the name) so we decided on a clean reboot. Also its a joint Con with the Anime Society so needed a new identity.

Right now we are working on securing some on-campus accomodation for guests. It'll be another week or two before that's nailed down. If you want to privately organise accomodation the Castletroy Travelodge (http://www.travelodge.ie/limerick-hotel-castletroy) has reasonable rates and is within 10 minutes walk of the Con location.

We'll be uploading a full accomodation guide of the area on our website http://brocon.skynet.ie in the next few weeks so keep an eye out there.

Your RPG co-ordinator is running a game in all 3 slots? That's insane!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,829 ✭✭✭KerranJast

    Yes we're quite mad I'm afraid :D

I think you misunderstood my comment, I wasn't going "Ho, ho, that;s silly" I was going "That's a terrible idea fucking idea that may well ruin RPGs at your con."

If your RPG co-ordinator is running games all weekend he's not free to do his job - and the hardest, most stressful, involved part of an RPG co-ordinators job is during the con. He won't be able to encourage sign ups for games that are filling, try to find extra tables for games that are overfilling, run around letting people know they're game won't run, making sure his writers are all there and have scenarios, sorting them out for any sudden needs that emerge, and anything and everything that could possibly go wrong.

Seriously, having him run that many games is a bad idea, he should really find someone to run them for him so he can run his part of the con.

It hasn't been a issue so far. We're not QCon.

Neither are Warpcon, Itzacon, Dominicon, Leprecon, or Gaelcon. It might have worked this time, but it will be an issue in future, believe you me. At the very least, make sure next year's RPGs bod has an assistant to help them out. RPG coordinator is usually busiest during the con itself, having him or her unavailable is a big risk to the schedule running smoothly. The committee really can't afford to be unavailable in case something goes wrong.

Anyway, I'm hearing it was a pretty fun con, so kudos on that, I'm sorry I couldn't make it. Make sure someone is able to note whatever criticisms people had over the weekend, and pass them on to next year's director. Not enough of that going round any Irish con really.

Was out in UL last week and saw the Brocon guys.
I know this is probably the wrong place to ask but what is Brocon.

It's ULs Anime & Gaming convention. UL hasn't hosted a convention since TriCon in 2001 due to various problems so we decided to relaunch ourselves in brand new pants. :D
