If this WWE NXT has the likes of Low Ki and Danielson wrestling consider me an avid fan from the start.

Will miss the ECW show in its current reeincarnation. Pretty much from the start it has been favourite WWE show of the week and demonstrates that simply-booked one hour TV shows that make the most of the talent available can still be done well.

    +1k for absolute sense.

The prospects of having Low Ki and Danielson on the same roster is actually pretty high with NXT. A Low Ki/Christian/Danielson feud would be pretty good to watch.

I'm a really big fan of WWE/ECW because, as flah said, it makes the most of the talent available. 1 hours of ECW is perfect and I'm genually sad to see it go. The fact that it's only on at 11pm on a Thursday night is crap. I really think the schedule should be re-jigged a bit to give ECW/NXT some exposure

Im intrigued by this NXT business. Sounds like its a mix of FCW/ECW and Tough Enough.

The NXT logo has been revealed

    That surely will be edited.

The chances of WWE replacing ECW with a better product (than ECW) are slim. I hope i'm wrong!

It's the same product under a different name, The "New" ECW was a great show and I enjoyed it every week. I hope WWE are more easy going to introduce new talent like Low Ki.

And use him in what? A feud with Zack Ryder?
Now the new talent can make names for themselves by putting on great matches.

They'll still need older guys there. Who will they learn how to have good matches from otherwise?

    From PWInsider

    - Since Vince McMahon announced that WWE's version of ECW will end its SyFy run in three weeks and will be replaced by the "next evolution" for WWE, fans have been wondering exactly what WWE NXT will consist of.

The word we are getting is that the series concept will be something of a "reality" based series featuring new talents who viewers will be able to follow inside and outside of the ring. The idea is that fans will be able to follow wrestlers from day one and get personal insight into them, their background and their goals, creating a different sense of deeper insight to the performers.

As it stands (and until the series airs, things could always change), the concept sounds similar to WWE's old MTV Tough Enough series or the UFC's Ultimate Fighter on SpikeTV with talents not only feuding with each other, but for the opportunity to become the "next" big WWE Superstar and move onto Raw and Smackdown.

WWE has been pitching different concepts for the series and formalizing plans since Fall of 2009, but right now, all signs are pointing to this concept being the nucleus of WWE NXT.

If what Christian said was true and all the ECW guys will be moving to Raw or Smackdown the new fellows will really suffer without Zeke or Trent Barreta to help guide them. Hopefully a few will stay on.

Thats essentially what it is already, a minor league show which features young new talent, mixed with some veterans to help elevate them. The only difference would be the name change really, and lets face it, a lot of people say it shouldn't be called ECW anyway

That's really what Sunday Night Heat and Velocity were supposed to be for before they got turned into pointless recap shows.

Yeah, Danielson really needs tips from Jackson...

Regal and Goldust would be the only ones I'd consider keeping on. They could take on the screne role of trainers.

Seems like it will be a kayfabe 'tough enough'.

I can see why Vince is doing this. It's a good idea to allow the young talent more TV time and for the fans to build up a repport with the wrestlers. It will also allow us to see the best young talent of FCW and OVW showing us what they can do rather than them going to Smackdown or Raw just to be jobbed out week in, week out. I just hope when one of them does eventually make the move to one of the bigger brands that they can go on and build on their sucess like Sheamus did rather than become the next Jack Swagger or Evan Bourne and find themselves in a worse position now than when they were on ECW.

I would have liked it if they kept ECW and made it non PG for all the older wrestling fans. I'm not saying they had to have extreme rules matches every week but just had it more 'adult' for the fans who can't stand the childish storylines.

    Any excuse really. :D

Seriously though this is an interesting idea, one of my complaints against the E recently is they don't build wrestlers up and give the fans a reason to care about them. They just go out and wrestle but thats enough these days to get over. Hopefully the guys on the show can form a connection with the fans.

Sky seem to be getting ahead of themselves atm. Tonight's episode of ECW at 12.30am on SS3/SSHD3 is named WWE Nxt although the EPG info is about ECW.

I just saw an ad for NXT there on Superstars and the tagline was "2 weeks until the season begins" so I'm guessing it'll be some sort of reality programme

speculation about what WWE's new NXT show would be like, we finally have some new concrete information - it's got nothing to do with science fiction or conspiracies.

Entertainment industry publication Variety reveals that WWE NXT will be a reality-based show, similar to Tough Enough and UFC's "The Ultimate Fighter," that will feature eight rookie wrestlers from WWE's developmental system (Florida Championship Wrestling) as they work their way towards a spot on the main WWE roster. Each rookie will be paired up with a veteran WWE superstar as their mentor, "with egos often getting in the way, as they learn the ropes of competing in the ring in front of live audiences, creating characters and speaking on camera."

WWE is teasing the series as a window into how the company truly operates.

"These kids crash and burn a lot," said Vince McMahon. "By putting them into this environment we'll find out if they can make it. There's no better way to develop skills than being in front of an audience. And that makes for good television."

WWE sent out the following press release today:

    WWE NXT DEBUTS ON SYFY

STAMFORD, Conn., February 16, 2010 – World Wrestling Entertainment and Syfy today announced the next generation of reality television with the debut of WWE NXT, Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 10:00 PM ET/PT on Syfy.

WWE NXT is a hybrid live event/reality show featuring eight well-known, popular WWE Superstars (“Pros”) mentoring eight WWE “Rookies.” These Rookies, who are learning the ropes, are athletes who epitomize pop culture and personify strong attributes – they are opinionated and aggressive – which means inherent conflict between Rookies and other Rookies, conflict between Rookies and Pros, as well as, conflict between Pros and Pros. The trials and tribulations of the WWE NXT cast ensure action-packed, innovative entertainment – WWE Style.

“Once again, WWE will bring something entirely new to the television landscape as WWE meets reality TV,” said Vince McMahon, Chairman and CEO, World Wrestling Entertainment. “As we introduce this brand new franchise exclusively on Syfy, WWE NXT will have a completely different look and feel from our other WWE television programming.”

“Syfy is excited to continue our partnership with WWE, Vince and his team with this innovative live event/reality show,” said Syfy President Dave Howe. “This is a unique combination of heart-stopping entertainment and gritty behind-the-scenes reality. The NXT Rookies take the challenge of our new tagline ‘Imagine Greater’ to heart as they embark on their ultimate dream quest to be the next generation of revered heroes and champions in the fantastic arena of the WWE.”

This could be great. Something different from the same old formula.

WWE sources have told us that the following talents are scheduled to be a part of the NXT show, which will debut on Sy Fy in the current ECW timeslot next week.

    FCW Champion: Justin Angel
    Daniel Bryan
    Kaval
    Skip Sheffield
    Joe Hennig
    Brett Dibiase
    Darren Young
    Heath Slater
    Michael Tarver

Brett to have Ted as mentor? If so this could be even better than ECW.

This should be awesome, Imagine HBK as Danielsons mentor? or even Punk be someones mentor ie Low Ki .. and he recruits him for the Straight Edge Society.. Cool concept good to see WWE being more innovated

I can't see Danielson being put with anyone but Regal, surely.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,083 ✭✭✭waltersobchak

No better man to be mentored by.. tbh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,153 ✭✭✭Jolt2007

By reading the press release I'd imagine it'll be more retired guys they have backstage than current ones being the mentors. I'm going in expecting the likes of Dean Malenko and Mike Rotunda anyway which still could be great.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,391 ✭✭✭D2D

Can a mod rename the thread to include NXT please

That'd be fine. They should use veterans like Golddust and Regal who otherwise woud be doing nothing as well. Theres not gonna be room on Smackdown on RAW for too many exras from ECW after all.

Really hope Goldust gets a job on it. He deserves it after his stint in ECW. I heard they're planning to keep Regal and Zeke together on Raw so that might rule him out but I guess he could do both. Throw Finlay there too.

A reality series! I just hope that they give future stars a push after the series. I can see people like Kaval (Low Ki) and Bryan Danielson getting a role on this.

I'd love to see Low Ki come in, I thought he was great in TNA. And Danielson was always great, it's just been a matter of when WWE would use him, he's been under contract with them in a developmental territory for a while now, hasn't he?
