Who they do is their own business, surely? :D
Anyhow, your question is a bit broken!

What would councillors be expected to do during the floods?

It's a bit late imho. It's more significant to look at who voted for planning decisions for flood plains.

Like Jimmy alluded to, it's whatthey done before the floods that need to be looked at.

Councillors seem to be concerned with points scoring, being photographed by the media at floods (e.g. Frank Fahey), pushing the blame etc.

+1 It's what they did over the last few years.

Did ye see the councillor on The Frontline saying he had nothing to do with flood plain development in Co. Monaghan and it's the Planning Depts fault and then they showed a clip of him arguing for rezoning of a flood plain a while back. Brilliant!

Although some councillors are genuinely outraged ... e.g. Galway Co. Cllr Bridie Willers...as her house is under water.

Really what I am eluding to is the fact that the majority of councillors around the country are not from governmental parties and that also includes those before 2009 elections.

2002 see FF with a landslide (literally)

My point been that all politicians haven't a clue. QED yet again :(

There were a couple of FG councillors out and about in Cork. Laura McGonigle was one and Dara Murphy was around also. McGonigle did a lot of legwork in regards to communications which turned out to be very helpful.

Situation in Cork is slightly different as aside from the Lee road and Lee fields, this area was never traditionally an area that flooded. What happened was very exceptional.
