I know there are still a few events left before the end of the year but just getting this started a bit early. In my view the Diego Sanchez V Clay Guida fight will take some beating. Any other candidates?

    Diego Sanchez V Clay Guida

    By a mile.

    Agree with you both.

Undoubtedly the fight of the year.

How Clay Guida survived the whole fight I'll never know.

Dana White rated this is fight of the year so far just before 100, I can't see how it was beaten since then.

Then again, BJ-Diego and KenFlo-Clay are still to come, the only fights than could steal it imo

Just for a dissenting opinion Faber Brown WEC 41.

If anyone had any real balls they would create a Best Fight of the Decade thread.

Stefan Struve against some Bosnian lad was awesome. Siver versus Mohr was awesome. Those are the best fights I have seen. Live fights are so much better than fights on TV.

    Guida va Sanchez
    Nog vs Couture
    Brown vs Faber

Best 3 I can think of right now

Pretty average fight on rewatch.Nowhere near FOTY contender

    Couture Vs Nog for me.
Maybe there was a better fight or 2 but the circumstances make it my favorite, namely a 46 yr old wrestler being able to withstand a 32 year old Nog(coming off a defeat if you please).

    cerrone vs henderson.

    ^^^^^I'll second that^^^^^

Donald Cerrone vs. Ben Henderson from WEC 43 was my pick and I'm guessing if it had of been on a UFC show would do a whole lot better than it probably will.

Nate Quarry vs Tim Credeur = Runner Up

Diego Sanchez vs Clay Guida = FOTY

The Clay Guida/Sanchez fight was responsible for 3 of my mates getting into MMA. They were over at mine having a few bottles and were hooked on it

Probably one of the best action packed fights was Guida/Sanchez

But the ones I enjoyed watching most were

    Fedor vs Rodgers
    Brock Vs Mir
    Shogun Vs Machida

Stefan Struve against some Bosnian lad was awesome. Siver versus Mohr was awesome. Those are the best fights I have seen. Live fights are so much better than fights on TV.

I saw those 2 live aswell. Struve vs Stonjic was the one you're on about. Not taht great a fight technically, but the finish had the crowd on their feet because of the blood pumping out of Struve and everyone was willing him on to get the finish.

For me, haven't seen the 2 WEC fights mentioned as yet, Guida vs Sanchez was FOTY for me by a long way. I tended to score it in Guida's favour too, but admittedly I'm biased, Guida is a legend IMO.

Just bought his Silver Star walk out t-shirt for Christmas!

Shanchez v Guida, fantastic fight , i still laugh when i think of a bloodied up Guida after the fight bouncing up and down being interviewed by Rogan.

I liked the Shogun Machida fight too , in terms of two differnet styles being pitted against one another. Great fight , terrible result.

I liked Tokoro vs. Takaya in Dream in October....

    but favs were:

Guida vs. Sanchez was amazing. Rank 1

GSP vs. Alves quality RANK 2

Henderson vs. Bisping RANK 3... just for the KO

For what it is worth FightersOnly's shortlist:

Mike Thomas Brown vs. Urijah Faber, WEC 41

Rich Franklin vs. Wanderlei Silva, UFC 99

Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir, UFC 100

Antonio Nogueira vs. Randy Couture, UFC 102

Diego Sanchez vs. Clay Guida, TUF 9 finale

Full list of all their awards here:

That list is up to the end of august. Cerrone henderson was on october, wec43. should be there on top of that list!

I'll be controversial and pick a UFC undercard fight.

I thought that Palhares vs. Linhares was an epic fight. Such a high level of grappling and unlike many fights between excellent grapplers they didn't try to shut each other down and hunted for submissions every second.

Lindland vs. Jacare will either be the best or worst fight of the year and Smith vs. Le will be a war.
