Hi - saw this on another thread regarding the M&S Cava where it says "consume within 6 months of purchase".. just wondering is there a conventional use-by period for Cava or are you safe enough up to a year?
    Thanks!

I can't see how it would do you any harm - but the 'consume by' probably refers to the quality, as it is most likely made to be consumed now, not for keeping.

Most cheap drinkable wines are meant to be consumed with in a year. However I don't think it will do you any harm to let it go over that date.

You will know pretty quickly if it is gone off anyway as it will be like vinegar.

Wine or beer are ok to drink no matter how old they are. They might not taste nice, but won't do you any harm. The alcohol and low pH of these drinks makes them hostile environments for bacteria and none of the relatively few microbes which can survive in them are pathogenic.
